  1. Integrated Coaching Management System -An Introduction

  2. Integrated Coaching Management System • Coaching Operation Information System has been renamed with enhanced scope as Integrated Coaching Management System. • The scope of this application is to cover following: • Coaching Stock Management • Punctuality Module • Coaching Maintenance Module • Timetabling Module

  3. Integrated Coaching Management System • Punctuality Module • This module has been implemented all over Indian Railways. This module will be migrated to the same system on which Coaching Stock Module is being implemented. This migrated module ill be offered for the testing by 20th June’06. • Coaching Stock Module • Will be discussed in next slides. • Coaching Maintenance Module • This module will capture depot workflow related to Coach Maintenance. Implementation of this module will start on 1st January’07. • Timetabling Module • This module is again in two parts • Maintaining a Centralized database of trains time table and providing centralized updating of time table data by all zones. • Simulation of time table which will help in planning, rake link utilization etc.

  4. Coaching Stock Module • Application Software is ready for implementation and complete production environment has been installed and set for rolling out according to the site readiness. System has already been given for field trial in Nizammuddin. • Peripherals are in the process of be being delivered to all Railways.

  5. Broad Objectives of Coaching Stock Module • To monitor the condition and location of the coaching stock . • To monitor the coaching rakes, their locations, arrival – departure . • To work as a management tool to provide for planning and rescheduling of rakes. • To work as a management tool to optimize utilization of each coach and timely maintenance (POH) and repairs. • Prompt planning for idle coaches and their timely bookings and usage to generate more review for the Railways. • To avoid manual manipulations and to provide fool-proof service to enhance the image of the Railways. • To provide MIS for Coaching Operations.

  6. System Architecture Database Database Application Server Cluster Web Servers DB Server Cluster Zones/Divisions / Yards Clients Intranet FireWall Web Servers

  7. System Architecture • User will connect to Web servers through browser interface • The user will be having Thin clients at their location that will be having internet browsers. • At the back-end will be the database server(RDBMS with High Availability) • Middle tier will have application servers with load balancing features

  8. PRS LAN L3 Switch Management Console Offline Environment SAN Switch Storage Console + Backup Server SAN Switch L2 Switches Cluster Cluster Cluster Cluster Dev App Server Production App Server Offline Database Server Production web Server EDGE Load Balancer Production Environment

  9. Application Architecture • Application design will be MVC (Model ,View & Controller)Arch only. • Model is for data representation and business logic, • Views that provide data presentation and user input(jsp), • Controller to dispatch requests (servelet). Contd..

  10. Software Design Contd.. • The business layer provides only application functionality, with no reference to presentation. The presentation layer presents the data and input prompts to the user (or to another system), delegating application functionality to the business layer. • Separating business logic from presentation has some important benefits: -Minimizes impact of change -Increases maintainability

  11. Technology Platform • Java based technology J2EE architecture is being used (Web Sphere Application Server) • Backend is RDBMS Oracle 10g. • This application will ride on the same network as that of FOIS. CRIS

  12. Operating Cycle of Events • Rake Formation • Rake Examination • Departure Reporting • Enroute Detachment/Attachment • Arrival Reporting • Movement • Empty Rake Movement from one yard yo other yard • Verify Consist • Sick Marking • Detachment • Sick Line Operations • Shop Marking • Shop Operations • Daily Stock Report • Advanced Booking of Coaches by Zonal Railways. • Memo Generation • Mailing Facility

  13. Major Reports • Daily Stock Report-Yard, Division, Zone and Indian Railways. • Rake Link Information – No of Rakes running with location of each rake, last event done on Rake, consist of each rake etc. • Trains running with shortage/excess load. • My Coaches in other Railways and vice versa. • Coaches inside shop/outside shop/journey to shop/back from shop etc for certain given duration. • Ineffective coaches • Coach history for a given duration/starting from induction in the system. • User Generated Report for Coaches.
