  9. Data-Driven Results on Team 7-2 • We make instructional decisions based upon your child’s results from standardized test scores. • Your student’s effort on these tests is paramount because results from this data is analyzed corporation-wide. • Everything from curriculum, grouping, and class schedules is affected based upon your child’s results. • We gauge your student’s mastery of content based upon ISTEP, NWEA, Acuity, and SRI tests.

  10. ISTEP • In 7th grade, your child will take English, Math & Global Studies tests. • The test is still administered in two rounds. • Round 1: occurs in March; includes open-ended and essay questions. • Round 2: occurs in April; includes multiple choice questions. • Please encourage your child to get a restorative night sleep and eat a nutritious breakfast.

  11. NWEA • A national assessment that gauges your child’s mastery of content that is at or above sixth grade standards. • Students will test NWEA three times this year in reading and math (fall, winter, spring); language will be administered twice (fall and spring). • NWEA results are used to place students in intervention, high ability classes, and math placement. • A page to track your child’s NWEA performance growth is located in the front of your child’s Passport.

  12. Acuity • A standards-based, computer assessment given at the end of each quarter in math, science, global studies, and English. • This assessments measures students’ mastery of standards, which were taught during the previous quarter. • Data is analyzed corporation wide. • Grades are given for these assessments. • The BCSC target goal is that all students will score 90% mastery on every test.

  13. English Standardized Tests • SRI (Scholastic Reading Inventory) • Gauges your child’s reading comprehension ability based on vocabulary knowledge and sentence length. • Results are communicated with Lexile scores. • 7th grade Lexile range is 750-900. • Administered in the fall, winter, and spring to measure your child’s continuous growth. • Grammar Pre/Post Test • 50 question multiple choice test administered the first week of school and again in May. • Gauges your child’s mastery and growth of grammar concepts from fall to spring. • Your child’s score on the pre-test does not affect his or her grade; the post-test is a final worth 100 points.

  14. Grading Policy • Grades will reflect academic achievement not behavior, effort, or attendance. • If students do not turn in assignments on time, our team will then ZAP students; they will not be allowed to attend their SRT club but must complete their missing work instead. • When students make the habitual choice to not complete assignments on time, a behavior consequence may result.

  15. Homework • Your child will have homework on a nightly basis! • Your child must always have a book to read at home for English. • If your child is absent, please contact the office to request makeup work. • There is a quick-link to all homework pages on the team webpage.

  16. Passport • Students should be recording assignments DAILY. • This is an excellent place to start if students have missing assignments. • “But I don’t have any homework.” -- check your child’s Passport or our webpages to verify this. (It won’t be true.) • Students should also always be reading a novel at home.

  17. Parent Homework • Parent Homework • Parent Homework is optional. However, this is a wonderful, informal way for you to introduce us to your child and inform us of anything special that we should know. • You may either email a copy or have your child turn in a hard copy to Mrs. Nuger. • Extra copies of the assignment are available on our team website.

  18. Webpage • Please visit our webpages • Notification of homework, tests, quizzes, and projects are posted online. • Check to see if your child’s Passport matches our homework pages. • Some copies of worksheets or notes may be available online. • On our website, you can also find: • upcoming information about team activities. • fun pictures and info about the teachers.

  19. The Necessity of Breakfast • Academic classes now begin at 7:35! • Seventh Graders eat lunch at 10:58. • Many are hungry by this time. • Please encourage your child to eat a healthy, well-balanced breakfast.

  20. Team Breakfast • Wednesday, September 1 at 6:45 am in the BWMS cafetorium. • Drinks and paper goods will be provided. • Please bring a breakfast item to share: • donuts or bagels • fruit • breakfast casseroles • bacon or sausage • We strongly encourage you to join us! Sharing breakfast together is an informal and beneficial way for us to get to know each other better. • We’ll remind you with an emailed invitation closer to the date.

  21. Parent Volunteers • We are in need of parent volunteers to help us Team 7-2 Teachers as much or as little as you’re available to: • Make copies for us • Create bulletin boards • Chaperone field trips • Organize and distribute quarterly recognition celebrations, etc. • Please add your name to the list on the table located in the Team 7-2 hallway.
