  1. Welcome to Sixth Grade! We are glad you are here and we look forward to a great year!

  2. Top 10 Rules for Success in Sixth Grade • The following rules are very important for each student to follow. • These rules are the same for all four content area teachers. • Following these rules will guarantee a smooth transition into sixth grade and throughout the school year.

  3. 1. Arrive to class on time. • Homeroom begins at 8:10 am. • The tardy bell rings at 8:15 am.

  4. Homeroom • Homeroom is a time to prepare for the school day. • When you arrive at school, students are expected to go to their lockers and then go directly to homeroom. • Students are encouraged to study or read a book in homeroom. In some classes, students will be allowed to begin their daily assignment.

  5. 2. Bring all necessary materials and supplies to class.

  6. Class supplies • Over the first few days of school, your teachers will tell you how to organize your binders and what materials will be needed daily for the class. • In some of your classes, materials will be collected and kept in the classroom for your use.

  7. 3. Turn in all homework assignments on the due date. • No late credit will be given.

  8. 4. Return all signed reports, forms and papers up to two days after the teacher sends them home.

  9. 5. Follow All dress code regulations. This also includes hair length. • See the GWA website or the 2010-2011 handbook for guidelines on dress code rules.

  10. 6. Listen when the teacher is talking. • Students are to remain silent whenever the teacher talks.

  11. 7. Treat all classmates and teachers with respect and courtesy.

  12. 8. Walk, don’t run, and talk quietly when moving about the campus. • Remain in the cafeteria during break and lunch. • See a 6th grade teacher for permission to leave during break or lunch.

  13. 9. Listen and behave respectfully at all GWA special programs or events.

  14. 10. Act appropriately while on school field trips. • Always remember to use your manners and be polite. • You are a representative of George Walton Academy!

  15. By following the Top Ten Rules, students are able to earn tickets for the Ticket Reward Parties that are held at the end of each nine week grading period. Thank you for supporting your child and encouraging them to become more independent this year. Working together, it will be a great year at GWA!
