  5. Student Growth Objectives for Librarians WHAT IS REQUIRED ? • Two SGO’s per librarian, per year not per class • Select a class from two different grade levels • The measurement will be the district research rubric • Maintain a portfolio

  6. Evaluations for School Librarians • New Jersey requires that multiple measures are used for teachers, principals, and vice principals. • This is not required for school librarians. • In our district tenured school librarians will be evaluated using the existing evaluation.

Observations must include: • Observing a lesson • Evaluating the library services and management • Walkthroughs • Analyzing a collaborative project involving teachers and students • Analyzing library data with the school librarian

  8. TEACHNJ • What elements from TEACHNJ are required for school librarians? • Four years for tenure • A rubric with four rating categories • Individual PD plan • Corrective action plans • Streamlined arbitration process

  9. What’s Next ? • We will focus on the following topics during our future work sessions. • Session One – What goes into an SGO ( selecting a group, assessments, baseline data, and academic goals). • Session Two – Advice for writing library SGO’s and practice creating a manageable SGO for the library. • Session Three and Four – Keeping current (creating a new evaluation for librarians, updating our job description, revising the research rubric and developing other rubrics to be used for baseline data).

  10. Library Power • Our libraries are diverse • Our students vary in ages • Our circumstances may not be the best But everyday we instill a love of reading in the students, staff, and community, while providing students with the 21st century skills neeed to be lifelong learners in our complex world.
