  4. Web Pages do not agree on release date “Kim Komando” advises • Sensible updates and fixed bugs are great news. Even better news is that Windows 8.1 will be free. • You will need to have Windows 8 or Windows RT, of course. Microsoft hasn't announced a price for people upgrading from Windows 7 or earlier. • I'm hopeful for Windows 8.1. It's possible, though, that these changes will make matters worse. • On June 26, Microsoft will release a public preview of Windows 8.1. Once it's available, you'll be able to find it on my site with full instructions.

  5. from Microsoft Web, Windows 8.1 • The new Windows 8.1 will not be brand new software, but more of an update to its Windows 8, which debuted last October. • While there will be a preview of Windows 8.1 at the Build conference June 26, the actual platform will not be available until later this year, most likely ahead of the holidays. • The changes made to the new software stem from consumer backlash, as many complained of similar issues they were having with Windows 8. • Windows 8.1 will be a free update as well for those who are currently using Windows 8.
