Category Options: Setup Select ‘Categories’ from main menu. • ‘Maximum Grades to Drop’ - Leave at zero until later in quarter. • ‘Make Category Properties Identical’ - Set to ‘Yes’ if you’d like the same assignments across class sections in group. • ‘Method of Weighting Grades’ recommendation is to use ‘Percent’. • ‘Student Advantage’ drops lowest grade if set to ‘Yes’. • ‘Total Points Logic’– Recommendation is to set at ‘Yes’ in order to record raw scores. Create Categories: Percent Calculations Set ‘Method of Weighting Grades’ to ‘Percent’. • Add category name • Select category color • Define weight (Total of category weights must add up to ‘100’) • Set number of assignments to drop • Categories will transfer to next Cycle (Quarter). • Use ‘Copy Categories’ link on right side of window as needed (not shown in image below).   19. Category Cautions • DO NOT delete categories after assignments have been entered. If so, ALL assignments and accompanying scores for that category will be deleted also. • DO NOT change weights after assignment scores are entered, otherwise calculations will be inaccurate and scores will need to be reentered. • DO NOT change logic or weighting methods after scores have been entered. • Note: You can edit category names mid quarter or maximum grades to drop without adverse effects on grades. Assignments: Hiding Hiding an Assignment from Parents’ View • Assignments can be hidden from the ParentConnection. • Select the checkbox at the bottom of the assignment detail screen to hide. • This assignment will not count towards the students overall average until the checkbox is deselected. Grade Transfer to SMS Grades Entered in GradeSpeed Post to SMS Automatically • All grades and standard comments that are entered in GradeSpeed transfer to SMS once hourly • The capture from GradeSpeed usually occurs at the top of each hour • Grades entered anytime before the top of the hour will appear in SMS at approximately 45 minutes past the hour (i.e. grades entered between 9 and 10 AM will appear in SMS at approximately 10:45 AM. • SMS also communicates to GradeSpeed. Cumulative Grades Screen Select Cumulative Grades from the Main Menu • Shows average for semester based on cycles and exam. • Updates automatically as grades are entered and saved. • Cycle 1 and 3 will be editable to assist in calculating the semester average. • DoDEA does not use the Overall Average or Final Exam columns. • This screen is comparable to the Grades Screen in Parent Connection. Ending Marking Periods Select Verify Gradebook from the Main Menu • Note: This is an optional feature, please check local school policies for grade verification procedures. • This tool allows you to review and override grades before locking your gradebook for the cycle. Once you verify your gradebook, you will not be able to enter grades for the cycle until your campus administrator clears the verification setting. • Once quarter grades for a class are confirmed and finalized, click on the verify button • The verification function also communicates to administrators that your grades have been finalized. ParentConnection Activity Teachers can view ParentConnection activity • Open a student’s ‘Student Profile’ • At the bottom of the screen you will see ‘Parent Account Info’ • The ‘Last Login’ date and time will be displayed indicating the last time the parent accessed the ParentConnection • Grade and notes data transfers automatically and immediately to the ParentConnection from the teacher’s gradebook • Teachers will also receive an indication when a parent has sent a response to a note sent by the teacher. • This is found on the ‘Student List’ screen.
