  2. Definition • Fortitude or courage is the gift of the Holy Spirit that limits fear. Fortitude literally means being brave and fearless but to us Christians, fortitude has a deeper meaning.

  3. Definition • Fortitude is not having no fear but is having fear but still going for it. Bravery without having fear is neither bravery nor fortitude, it is foolishness and ignorance.

  4. Definition • Fortitude is simply being brave and courageous for a good cause. If the motif behind the bravery is for entertainment, income or just amusement, that is merely bravery not fortitude.

  5. Example • People who show fortitude are martyrs. Fortitude helps them accept death rather than renouncing their Christians faith. • Other people that show fortitude are court judges who make a just decision amidst bribery and death threats.

  6. Example (with visual aid) Another example, jumping into a pool of sharks and jumping a trench on a motorcycle for an audience are acts of bravery and courage but not acts of fortitude, but jumping into a pool of sharks to save someone drowning and jumping a trench to help someone on the other side are acts of fortitude.
