  1. Organizational Culture How to Promote Yours

  2. What is Company Culture? • A company’s culture is the collection of ways of behaving, feeling, thinking, and believing, the patterns that explain “the way we do things around here.” • If done right, an organization’s culture can be a tremendous source of value. It enables, energizes, and enhances its employees and thus fosters the results management is looking to achieve. • A strong and inclusive corporate culture engages people and creates positive energy and momentum.

  3. 1. Start at the Top • The CEO is the most visible leader in a company. His or her direct participation in all areas of the company’s culture can make an enormous difference, not just in how people feel about the company, but in how they perform. • GinniRometty, CEO of IBM, has said “Culture is your company’s number one asset.” • Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks, has written that “so much of what Starbucks achieved was because of [its employees] and the culture they fostered.”

  4. 2. Set up your Office Space to Reflect your Company’s Culture • If you have seen the movie “The Internship”, you know that the Google campus is defined by modern architecture and furniture all in primary colors. Your business workspace says a lot about your company culture. Creating an inspirational office environment can serve as a visual reminder of your core values. • For example, If one of your company’s core values is environmental stewardship, decorate your office with “naturescapes”. This will make employees think about why they are proud to be working for a company that values a green operation. • If your culture is one marked by open communication and teamwork, have an open workspace that encourages collaboration.

  5. Google’s Culture is about attracting the best employees and creating a fun work environment • Free breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The organic food is chef-prepared • Free health and dental • Free haircuts • Free dry cleaning • Subsidized massages • Gyms and swimming pools • Hybrid car subsidies • Nap pods • Video games, foosball, ping pong • On-site physicians • Death Benefits

  6. 3. Reward Employees who Exemplify your Company’s Culture • Good companies celebrate achievement. They create heroes and make sure that everyone knows about good deeds. • Great companies tie these rewards and achievements into their company culture. • Ernst & Young, an accounting firm, has held a celebration for their Entrepreneur of the Year award at the local, national and global level for 28 years. • Whitt Butler, an advisory partner in the Akron office and Northeast Ohio Entrepreneur of the Year program director, said the event ties into the firm's brand and purpose to “build a better working world.” “One of the ways we think we build a better working world is we put the spotlight on entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial companies,” Mr. Butler said. “It highlights them and connects them with service providers, advisers, investors and really helps their companies grow.”

  7. 4. Company Blog • Company blogs are incredibly beneficial for businesses. It’s important to keep blog content fresh. Promoting your company culture on the blog will not only create new content but it will also give customers a better understanding of your company. • Example: Adidas Group

  9. 5.Enculturation Training • Definition: Enculturation is a socialization process by which new workers adjust to, and become part of, the corporate culture of their new company, office, department, etc. Some companies help new employees to enculturate through orientation or training sessions. (humanresources.about.com) • The Cultural training should be done by professionals from Operations and Senior Executives who will reflect the crucial ‘people productivity’ linkage and focus on actual work-based corporate cultural scenarios. • Talk to your employees about what you expect from them, especially if it extends beyond their primary duties. If you expect your employees to get involved in the community, don't just tell them -- show them. Give them examples of ways they can contribute that will promote your company's culture. • Evaluate the success of the trainings not only by the participants scores, but by real time follow-up interviews and monitoring of the subsequent workplace environment.
