  1. Radical Discipleship Disciplemaking Foundations

  2. Radical Discipleship What does our culture value most? • What are the marks success? • What do people want? • Who or what is most important?

  3. Radical Discipleship “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?” Luke 9:23-25

  4. Radical Discipleship “When Christ calls a man he bids him come and die” Dietrich Bonhoeffer “The road to life is death” John Stott

  5. Radical Discipleship The call of Christ: Invitation and Challenge • Invitation to the lost and weary, hungry and thirsty. He meets our deepest needs. • Challenge to follow Jesus in his mission and his sacrifice. Called to be fishers of men and to take up our cross daily.

  6. Radical Discipleship Discipleship is: A daily death to self • Motivated by a love of life • Practiced in obedience to Christ’s word • Demonstrated in sacrificial love • Empowered by the Spirit • Resulting in great fruitfulness

  7. Radical Discipleship What prevents fruitfulness? Mark 4:1-20

  8. Radical Discipleship Discipleship is Counter Cultural: • Death is the new Life • Down is the new Up • Less is the new More • Weak is the new Strong • Slavery is the new Freedom • Confession is the new Innocence From “Die Young”, Hayley and Michael DiMarco, Crossway 2012

  9. Radical Discipleship “He died for all that, those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him …” 2 Cor 5:15 Saved from living for yourself!

  10. Radical Discipleship • How do we make radical disciples? • What are some of the issues?

  11. Radical Discipleship How do we make radical disciples? By Example “Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ” 1 Corinthians 11:1

  12. Radical Discipleship How do we make radical disciples? By Encouragement and Accountability “See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” Hebrews 3:12-13

  13. Radical Discipleship “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24 ESV Hear and Do!
