  2. (2 minutes) A roll – montage of: • mainstream media • Jenna Marbles • “Sh*t white guys say” series • Audition footage (?) • street interviews of people • “performing” manliness • describing/listing attributes of men Introduction: demonstrate “manly” stereotype/ideology

(3 minutes) A-roll – gender role performance discussion • Jean Kilbourne’sKilling Us Softly • masculinity is tied with violence • advertisements constantly markets this to men • Show chart/statistics (empirical evidence) • Scholars further emphasizing • “performing” manliness • describing/listing attributes of men Show why this is a problem

  4. ROXANNE LO: How would you describe the traditional performance of gender role? Has it changed/shifted? In what way? Interviewee: [respond] RL: In what aspects can we see this transition? Interviewee: [respond] RL: How can this phenomenon be explained? When/how did it start? Interviewee: [respond]

  5. (30 seconds) • Statistics of main/primary targeted groups for advertising • Caucasians • 18-35 age group  most economically influential Show why this is a problem

  6. (5 minutes) A-roll – in-depth interview for 5 people, approximately 1 minute each. B-roll = original footage of relevant topic (ie footage of video gaming etc) [SCENE #3] [Act #1] START Fade in: only interviewees are seen, interviewer off camera. Roxanne Lo: How would you describe the American man? What does he look like? What are his actions? Is he a likable person? Interviewee: [respond] RL: Is this someone you aspire to be like?

  7. RL: Who is your ideal candidate for man? Fictional characters acceptable too, as long as you can explain/justify. Interviewee: [respond] RL: What is your current Facebook profile picture of, if you don’t mind disclosing this information. Interviewee: [respond] RL: Is there a specific reason as to why you chose this one in particular? Interviewee: [respond]

B-roll = original footage of relevant topic (ie footage of video gaming etc) [SCENE #3] [Act #6] START Fade in: only interviewees are seen, interviewer off camera. Roxanne Lo: How would you describe the American man? What does he look like? What are his actions? Is he a likable person? Interviewee: [respond] RL: Is this someone you aspire to be like? Interviewee: [respond] RL: Of the different fraternities at Rollins, is there a reason why you are in TKE? (ie legacy, philosophy, friends etc)
