“A strong, healthy heart and lungs. Cardiovascular fitness is achieved through exercises which require cardiovascular endurance (such as aerobics, and circuit training with weights)”

muscular endurance
Muscular Endurance

“It is the ability of a single muscle or muscle group to work for a period of time without tiring”

  • Improving muscular endurance

muscular strength
Muscular Strength

“It is the amount of force a single muscle or muscle group can exert against a resistance”

  • Improving muscular strength
  • We can improve this aspect of our fitness by training with heavy weights (80 – 100% of our 1 repetition maximum). We need to do these exercises slowly with a low number of repetitions, working through the full range of movement (6 – 12).
flexibility
Flexibility

“Range of movement in a joint or group of joints. Referring to the ability of a bone joint or muscle to stretch”

  • Good flexibility refers to an advanced degree of limberness in the joints and muscles.
