  5. Caddy Program/Evans Scholars Last year, as a club, we started a push toward becoming more generous towards the Evans Scholars program. To update everyone, we’re proud to announce that we have two new Evans Scholars, Nick Michetti and Ryan Wietchy, who are going to U of M and Michigan State, respectively. This is one of the most respected charities in the country, not to mention one of the oldest. Throughout their years, they have committed 92% of all donations directly to tuition for these young people, by far one of the best rates of any charity in the country. Remember, many of these Scholars would not be going to any college without this program, let alone colleges of this stature. While we have improved, we have a lot of work to do. Listed below is a snap shot of where we stand versus other clubs. I think many of us will agree that the company we are keeping on this chart is not the same as the one’s we’d hold ourselves against as far as club stature is concerned. Many of these clubs do not even have caddy programs.

  6. Statistics *As you can see, our rounds have stayed fairly constant, even though our golfing membership has gone from 328 members in 2007 to 287 members today in 2012. *In 2012, our average tournament had 54 participants, only about 21% of golfing memberships It is our goal to increase this by 10% each of the coming years.

  7. Senior Golf Seniors-This year silver tees will be eligible for tournament play! Using the formula to figure handicaps set forth by the USGA, we had resounding success in our senior only events last year, and have decided to apply that formula to all tournaments. If you would like to play the silvers for an event, simply write that next to your name on the sign up sheets…the handicap adjustments will be taken care of for you!

  8. Staying Informed… There are many ways to stay informed of all the happenings at Great Oaks. Be sure to keep an eye on our website, www.greatoakscc.com, as well as any club emails you receive.
