the imagination is powerful

The Imagination is Powerful

“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but imagination.” Are you exercising your “imagination muscles” daily, don’t let something as powerful as your imagination lie dormant lie dormant.

“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions. Imagination is more important than knowledge.”

make mistakes

Make Mistakes

Discover the power of making mistakes. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again, if you want to succeed, triple the amount of mistakes that you make.

create value

Create Value

“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.

Labour to be valuable and success will chase you down”

What do we want?
  • If we want pupils to be successful, responsible and confident learners they need to come across inspirational teachers
  • Our expectations need to be high enough to allow the learners to take more responsibility for their own learning
  • We need to believe that deep learning is better than coverage
our pupils need to
Our pupils need to

What might you expect

this book to be about?

One minute sweep around your table...

Your group has been given a selection of readings from the first section of the book. Some are longer then others – please select one each.

  • (If there are more readings than group members you may choose to leave readings out or perhaps would be happy to read more than 1!)

On your own:

Read your extract(s), annotating and highlighting the text where you feel appropriate to respond to the question:

What are the key idea(s) from the extract that you have read?

With your group

Share the key ideas from each extract

How might the ideas from your shared reading have impacted upon you when you were at school yourselves?

How might the ideas impact upon your learning and teaching now?

What are the implications for promoting increased motivation and perseverance in our learners?

With your group

Now decide how you will present these implications and your ideas and thinking to the whole group in a memorable way.

You have 20 minutes to prepare and 2 minutes to present
