  2. John Dowland • Born in 1563, London • Died February 20, 1626, London • English Composer, Singer and Lutenist • Most of his music is his own instructed. • He played the Lute.

  3. Early Life • In 1580 went to Paris where he served as an ambassador to the French court. • Was married, and was the father to Robert Downland • Bachelor of music from Christ Church, Oxford • He was a Catholic

Musician and Composer • He is Famous for Lachrimae or Seven Tears which is a set of seven for five viols and a lute. • He is most known for his song Flow My Tears • Most his music is based on his own instrument • He was a contemporary to Shakespeare and with Shakespeare, his music speaks to us. • His music was divided equally between songs and solo compositions for the lute.

  5. Music • He was a composer of lute-songs • He published his first collection of airs in this year, his first book was called “First book of Ayres for Voice & Lute” • He also published “A Pilgrimes Solace” which was a collection of words for voice and lute.

  6. Flow My Tears This song was his most popular and most known Song In this piece of music it included a set of seven for five viols and a lute. This piece was one of the best known pieces of consort music in his time.
