  4. 1.0 Introduction An organization is a social unit of people that is structured and managed to meet a need or to pursue collective goal. A social system is a series of interrelationship existing between individual groups and institutions and form a coherent whole (group) A work system is a system which human participants and machines perform work (processes and activities) using information, technology and other resources to produce products/services for internal or external customers

  7. 3.0 History of women’s entry into the formal work setting • Women’s entry work entry dates back to Kenya after independence when a number of women gained access to white collar jobs. • However, these were lower cadre jobs such office assistants, secretaries switch board operators. • Over the years the number of women in leadership jobs increased as a result education explosion. An example of this is the many women professors in academic field, eg the late prof. WangariMaathai and prof. Leah Marangu among many others

  8. Conti’-History • Due to indigenous cultural practices and type socialization around the world women were not accepted by men and organizations access white to collar jobs.

  9. Conti’-History) • Over the years the number of women in leadership jobs increased as a result of education explosion. • An example of this is the many women professors in academic field, eg the late professor wangari maathai, prof. leah marangu among many others.

  11. Current trends • Legal framework –current constitution states that we should have 1/3 of gender in decision making positions in any organisation.
