Strategic Plan: Overview • General timeline: • Dec. 2012: NGS Executive Steering Committee (ESC) approves National Height Modernization Program (NHMP) Strategic Plan • July 2013: NGS Objective leads complete implementation plans, including actions from Plan • Sept. 2013: NHMP evaluates progress of NHMP Strategic Plan (to be repeated annually) • Jan. 2017: NHMP re-visits NHMP Strategic Plan, revising as necessary • Dec. 2017: NGS ESC approves revised NHMP Strategic Plan • ~ 2022 ~ : Transition to new vertical datum

Strategic Plan: Overview • Vision: Accurate heights now and into the future! • Document summary: • Goals (3): Long-term aims • Objectives (7): Realistic targets that move us toward goal • Strategies (22): Broad activities to achieve objectives • Actions (68): Specific activities with assigned resources, deadlines, and accountability • Keep in mind: • Comprehensive, but not exhaustive • Changes will occur over time • Actions not all assigned/prioritized at this time

Strategic Plan: Overview • Goal 1: Maintain NAVD 88 today • Data, models, and tools • Field observations and procedures • Goal 2: Modernize Vertical Datum • GRAV-D, geoids, and monitoring change • Models, tools, and transformations • Goal 3: Increase technical capacity • Transfer of knowledge/training • Expand online and remote training/support

Implementation • Ten Year Plan objective implementation plans • Plan released to public: January 2013 • Implementation plan completion (goal): July 2013 • Project Management Paradigm • “Re-inventing Blue-booking;” Manger = Michael Dennis • New Vertical Datum Project; Manager = Mark Eckl • Internal Height Modernization “Steering Committee” • Coordinates cross-division • Coordinates cross-agency • Height Modernization Coordination Meeting • Coordinate between NGS and state/university partners • Coordinate cross-agency
