  1. Reduce food losses in the rice milling process by using grain driers & silos by Nick Chen Yeedon Enterprise Corp.

  2. How we handle the rice after it is harvested Wet paddy->dry paddy->storage ->husking->milling->polishing->color sorting ->packaging->logistic->table

  3. Drier Reduce the moisture content, prevent the wet paddy from getting rotten

  4. Silo Air conditioned Silos.Keep the dry paddy in low temperature (15 ℃),prevent the rice from aging, insects,…etc

  5. Husking Machine Remove the paddy husk->Brown rice

  6. Milling Machine Remove the rice bran->White rice

  7. Polishing Make the rice shining and clean on the surface

  8. Color Sorter Remove the bad kernels such as: yellow kernels, red kernels, damaged kernles, chalky kernels…

  9. Color Sorter

  10. Packaging Pack the rice in different sizes & types(vaccum or non-vaccum)

  11. LogisticMake deliveries

  12. Table Let’s enjoy!

  13. How we handle the rice after it is harvested Wet paddy->dry paddy->storage ->husking->milling->polishing->color sorting ->packaging->logistic->table

  14. Traditional way to dry paddy under sunshine

  15. Drawbacks of traditional way • Not possible during rain or at night. Delays in drying lead to moldy grain and yellow kernels <Losses happen> • Difficult to control temperature. If the sunshine is too strong, overheating of grains can result in cracked grains. When we mill the rice, the broken kernel percentage will be high. <Losses happen> *According to our experience, the cracked kernels could be up to 50% if the paddy is not dried properly under sunshine

  16. Advantages of driers • Stable temperature -avoid overheating • No delay if the weather is bad -avoid delay • The cracked kernels could be reduced to below 10% by using driers *The heat is provided from burning husk, the cost is lower than diesel.Energy saving.

  17. Storage

  18. Problems warehouses generally have • Rice bugs • Rats&birds • Flood,typhoon,….etc

  19. Rice bugs Grow fast --30 ℃ and 65~70% humidity (the rice bugs could appear in 20~30days) <Losses happen>

  20. Rats&birds They like rice, usually they live in the warehouse Sanitary problem <Losses happen>

  21. Flood, typhoon,….etc • Weather pattern is changing and unpredictable, some warehouses could only provide weak protection <Losses happen>

  22. Storage is important

  23. Silos • Air conditioned,15℃ inside the silo throughout the year (rice bugs hardly grow at the temperature 15℃~18℃) • Strong protection, difficult to get in by water, animals… • Keep the rice fresh, rice is aging very slowly at 15℃, when rice gets old,the color becomes yellow

  24. Technologies & facilities could help us reduce food losses during production, but the most important thing is that we need to be aware food will not be enough if we don’t cherish the food
