The Process • Meet with mentor • Determine research topic and develop thesis • Create e-portfolio • Narrow the geographic region • Specify research goals • Determine appropriate global service project • Develop presentation • Determine projected date of completion • Utilize checklist • Present findings and submit paper

  5. Student/Mentor Agreement • Agreements between the Mentor and the GCP Student • 1. You will read and understand these general guidelines, as well as the guidelines specific • to the project you have chosen. • 2. You will abide by the deadlines that you and your mentor have established (see Project • Meetings Timeline). • 3. You will understand and abide by Sharon High School policies with regard to academic • honesty, and shall cite all references and sources of ideas, quotations, data, diagrams, • illustrations, etc.. • The role of the mentor will be to: • * Encourage and support you in your efforts. • * Provide advice of a subject specific nature. • * Review typed and spell-checked drafts of your work. • * Make sure that the work is your own. • * Complete the mentor report. • * Keep copies of agreements, journal entries, project timeline. Keep a record of days/times • of meetings. • The role of the mentor will NOT be to: • * Get you started and tell you what to do. • * Give you a research question or a project idea. • * Give you the resources. • * Edit your work, although the mentor may make suggestions after reviewing the work. • * Remind you of the deadlines you have agreed to. • * Chase you to be able to read a draft and offer advice.

Presentation Guidelines • Suggested time: ~ 30 minutes • Organized and professional • Multi-media (pictures, video) • Suggestions: • 5 min – introduction /thesis (what, where, when?) • 10 minutes – global service project • 10 minutes – research findings • 5 min – conclusion – reflection – question/answer
