  2. Ethnic groups, languages and the population of Russia Russia had 143,200,000 in August 2012. Though 81% of the population are Russians there are many ethnic groups. Some of them live in separate regions like Bashkirs in Bashkirstan, Yakuts in Yakutia. Russian and the languages of these ethnic groups are considered as official languages in Russia. Other minorities are migrants from other countries, especially from the republics of former Soviet Union, like Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Georgia etc. All the languages of these countries are spoken in Russia but are unofficial.

  4. Sports in Russia The sports that the Russians are famous for are rhythmic gymnastics, figure skating, ice hockey, chess, football and some others.

  5. Famous people in Russia The first man that went into space was Yuri Gagarin. There are many famous Russian composers such as Tchaikovsky, who is famous for ballets: Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Nutcracker. Other famous composers are Rachmaniov, Shostakovich and Prokofiev. There were lots of Russian chess champions: Alekhine, Botvinnik, Spassky, Karpov, Kasparov, Kramnik.

Russian foods • Borsch- The most famous Russian soup which is also very popular in Armenia where my parents are from, so I LOVE IT!!!!!!! • Blini- which are actually pancakes, are very popular in Russia too. Sometimes they are eaten with caviar which I hate though it is a very expensive delicacy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • Pelmeni- Which are tiny pastries filled with meat. Usually eaten with soured-cream. • Pirozhki- These are pastries filled with either meat, potatoes or cabbage. Yummy!!!!
