Purpose of this informational meeting? To inform the non-profit community what we have to offer To help agencies understand how to apply for assistance To help agencies understand evaluation criteria To reach agencies that have not been aware of our services

Nearly a Century in KC Organized in 1914 The 14th League created in the United States Started the first public kindergarten in KC Helped found: Children’s TLC Docents at Nelson-Atkins CASA of Jackson County Jazzoo/Zoo Learning Fund Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired
Junior League of Kansas City, MissouriFundraising Holiday Mart Great Shopping for a Great Cause Annual four-day shopping extravaganza held each October Over 20 years More than $5 million raised to support community projects since 1988 Junior League Resale Boutique In Business from 1934 – April 30, 2011 Over 75 years of fundraising and community service projects New Fundraising Initiatives to replace Resale Boutique $ 2010 committee formed to research and present new fundraising opportunities in 2011
Our Prior Community Support Children’s Literacy 10-year Achievements (2000-2010): Provided 995 volunteer placements; 29,500 volunteer hours served Secured 33 Community Partners 765K books were collected through Hooked On Books Provided over $1.3M in funding Examples of Children’s Literacy Programs where Volunteers were provided: Reach Out and Read Hooked on Books Youth Friends CCVI’s Lending Library Horizon Academy Operation Breakthrough

Eligibility Must have 501(c)(3) status Be located within… Clay, Jackson or Platte Counties in Missouri Johnson or Wyandotte Counties in Kansas Assistance NOT available for: individuals religious purposes political causes fundraising initiatives
League Attributes Business year runs from: June 1 through May 31; same timeline applies for all volunteer & funding resources We rotate all our volunteer positions, including leaders, every 12 months We start with a blank slate each year for community partners
What Makes Us Unique? Ability to provide Volunteers AND/OR Funding to community agencies Ability to provide varying degrees of assistance
$$$ Available JLKCMO Resources On-Going Volunteers Short-Term/Immediate Financial Assistance Annual Funding One-Time Volunteers
Short-Term/Immediate Financial Assistance The Community Endowment Fund Committee offers short-term, immediate financial assistance to community agencies in the Greater Kansas City area in critical need Critical needs may include, but are not limited to: unbudgeted expenses sudden loss of funding new programs
Size & Scope Maximum grant amount is $5,000 Annually provide $40,000-$50,000 in grants; see handout for examples of grants given Applications are evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis from June 1 through May 31 (or until grant money is depleted)
What We Need From You Completed 2-Page Grant Application;http://www.jlkc.org/?nd=form__194 Supporting documentation with completed application, including: Agency mission statement IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt status letter List of Board of Directors Fiscal year-end balance sheet and income statement Program budget (revenues and expenditures by line item) Other sources of projected income
When to Expect Our Response We aim to have an answer to you within 60 days However, we cannot begin evaluating your application until we have all the completed information
Grant Follow-up After a Grant is given, we require the following: Written follow-up within 60 days detailing how the grant money was used Receipts for durable goods may be requested Work with us to include Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri logo on any printed literature or displays funded by our grant

Application Overview Historical Data: Received and reviewed: 2010-2011: 50 applications requesting 904 volunteers and $447,998 in funding 2009-1010: 80 applications requesting 600 volunteers and $900,000 in funding Annually Award Approximately $150,000 Annually Provide Approximately 100 Volunteers
Application Process to Request On-Going Volunteers and/or Annual Funding MUST APPLY BY: AUGUST 1, 2011For Support Beginning:JUNE 1, 2012 - MAY 31, 2013
Evaluation Criteria for On-Going Volunteers and/or Annual Funding REQUESTS
New Philosophy Fewer Projects with Larger Levels of Support Funding and Volunteer Numbers Emphasis on tying Funding with Volunteers
Annual Funding Mission-driven Measured Outcomes; impact in community Sustainability Collaboration 51% JLKCMO Impact Area: Children’s Nutrition and Fitness Average Funding range: $500-$10,000/project
On-Going Volunteers Mission-driven Education/training component Program or project focus (no fundraising) Description of volunteer responsibilities Volunteer range: 5-25+ Geographic diversity Evening and Weekend hours Year-long opportunity of approximately 40 hours per volunteer

One-Time (“Done In A Day”) Volunteersfrom the…Action Team (“A-Team”)
A-Team Provides Volunteers for… Short-term (“Done In A Day”) projects: 1-3 day projects 3-4 hour shifts Many times we can provide volunteers for multiple shifts. 3-15 volunteers Examples: Races Events Auctions Art Booth Volunteer Appreciation Party, etc.
When, What, How? Apply Early Preferably 2-3 months in advance Applications accepted year-round Volunteers available August 2011 through May 2012 Evening/weekend projects ideal Apply online at http://www.jlkc.org/?nd=ateam_current
A-Team Process Volunteers sign up at monthly meetings Project leader contacts agency with availability Project leader also serves as liaison between the agency & the volunteers
