  2. What is a Radiologic Technologist? • Also called radiographers • Take x-rays of the human body(images of the human body) • Administer nonradioactive materials into the patients • bloodstreams • Make sure that every thing is safe for the procedure

  3. Nature of Work • Explain what is going to happen • Removing jewelry and other articles • Position patients so that the body can be radiographed • Review x-ray images

  4. Personality Characteristics • Relationships-work in a friendly non-competitive environment • Achievement-see the results of their work, feeling of accomplishment • Realistic Interests-like practical hands-on problems and solutions • Investigative-like ideas and talking, searching for facts, and finding solutions

  5. Education/Training • High school diploma/GED • Medical Imaging Technology program • Be able to work in a team • Study anatomy and physiology, patient care procedures, and medical terminology, radiation physics, radiation protection, and principles of imaging • Complete a two-year program in medical imaging technology • Completion of seven clock hours of HIV/AIDS training

  6. Licensure, Certification, Registration • Complete a two-year accredited training program • Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists • Certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification board

  7. Working Conditions Interpersonal Relationships: • high level of social interaction, constantly talk to doctors and patients • deal with unpleasant, angry people • placed in conflict situations • work in a group or as part of a team • Physical Working Conditions: • work indoors • exposed to diseases • exposed to radiation • work very near to patients and doctors • Work Performance: • must be very exact an thorough in their work • must repeat some physical activities such as positioning patients • meet strict deadlines

Wages and Benefits - Half of the workers in Whatcom County • Entry level wage is $21.45 per hour • Half of the workers earn between $23.17 and $33.16 per hour • Half of the workers nationally • Earn between $3,438 and $5,043 per month ($19.84 and $29.10 per hour) • Benefits • Full time benefits include -paid sick leave -paid vacation -health insurance

Job Outlook in the next 5-10 Years? -General(Nationally) • Nationally the number of jobs for radiologic technologists is expected to grow faster than average through the year 2016 -In Washington State • Between 2006 and 2016 the number of jobs in this occupation is projected to increase 23.5%. It is estimated that there will be 90 openings annually due to new positions and 59 openings annually from workers leaving this occupation • The estimated average growth for all occupations in Washington is between 2006 and 2016 is 14.8%
