  4. WHAT IS TIBB? • Unani-Tibb (Unani – Greek, Tibb - medicine) Greek Medicine • Roots – African (Imhotep), Greek (Hippocrates), Arab (Ibn Sina), Western herbal (Culpepers) • Foundation of orthodox medicine

  5. TIBB HEALTH PROMOTION • Recognition of uniqueness/temperament of an individual – “special identity” • Temperament contributors – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual attributes • Choosing a lifestyle in harmony with temperament

  6. LIFESTYLE FACTORS • Six lifestyle factors: • Environmental air & breathing • Food & Drink • Movement and rest • Sleep and wakefulness • Emotions and feelings • Elimination or detoxification

THE TIBB SCHOOL PROGRAMME • Grade 9 and 10 students • Identify unique temp - appropriate lifestyle • Runs over 10 lessons (5 hours) – incorporated into schools lifestyle orientation subject • Course material booklet – “Learning with Tibb – Your Body, Your Personality, Your Responsibility” • Educators Guide – defined outcomes

  8. CONCEPT OF PHYSIS • Physis - inherent wisdom, a mechanism (force) that enables the body to heal itself - ‘Vis medicatrix natura’ Hippocrates • Exists in all living organisms – including human beings • Awareness of Physis – an element of spirituality - respect for the body - responsibility
