  5. Are you on the “same page” as your board, superintendent, principals, teachers and students, etc? Meaning…do they understand philanthropy is a team sport? Do you have a positive relationship with your superintendent, principals, teachers, Board and other stakeholders?

  33. Be a Global visual! Does your foundation engage teachers, research, service, education for administrators, teachers, students, community? What? Determine the purpose for your foundation – Simple is better! What is the foundation’s reputation and expectations? Do a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis with various constituents engaged. Have an outside objective consultant, peer or member view your program on an ongoing basis – Look at Best of Class and model if relevant! thoughts
  34. Engage superintendent, principals and teachers in life of foundation. Have a foundation recognition plaque in each school’s entrance. Make presentations in each school and recognize teachers, parents and friends. Utilize famous “alumni” when possible. Take foundation beyond special events to comprehensive program. As a foundation executive, volunteer for at least one organization and become a leader, so you can appreciate volunteer needs and wants. Create a student foundation and attempt to have students give “forever” to foundation. Create a newsletter, letters and a website to keep information flowing. Think out of the box! Continued thoughts
