  3. PURPOSE TO PROPOSE THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MILITARY LEADERSHIP MINOR AT KENNESAW STATE UNIVERSITY

BACKGROUND • ROTC Students take 16+ Credit Hours of Military Leadership • Courses during their tenure at KSU to commission into the United • States Army • Military Leadership curriculum already inculcated into the KSU • Academic Catalog and academic system • In conjunction with ROTC Curriculum, Cadets conduct over 392 • hours of leadership training during the School Year • No impact on any KSU college academic undergraduate or major • curriculum • Military Leadership Minor bolsters the KSU Cadets academic major

LEADERSHIP MINOR PROPOSAL Advanced Course: Junior Year MILS 3011 Adaptive Tactical Leadership I (4) MILS 3012 Adaptive Tactical Leadership II (4) Senior Year MILS 4011 Developing Adaptive Leadership (4) MILS 4012 Leadership in a Complex World (4) Total Minor Credit Hours = 16 NOTE: MINOR IS OPEN TO ALL ACADEMIC COLLEGES. HOWEVER, MINOR ONLY PERTAINS TO THOSE STUDENTS WHO ASPIRE TO BECOME A COMMISSIONED OFFICER IN THE U.S. ARMY.

LEADERSHIP MINOR JUSTIFICATION • ASSUMPTIONS • THAT SOUTHERN POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY • WILL ACCEPT THE MINOR DEGREE PROGRAM • THAT THE MINOR PROGRAM WILL BE REGISTERED • THROUGH THE POLITICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT • FACTS • MILITARY MINOR ACCOUNTS FOR 16 CREDIT HOURS • CREDIT HOURS ARE OUTSIDE PRIMARY DISCIPLINE • ALL 16 HOURS ARE ABOVE UPPER DIVISION LEVEL • COURSES • THERE ARE NO CONFLICTS WITH MAJOR / MINOR • COURSES FOR ALL ACADEMIC MAJORS AT KSU/SPSU • WITH THE MINOR COURSES, THERE ARE NO DUPLICATIVE • CREDITS • THE MINOR IS AN ESTABLISHED CURRICULUM WITHIN KSU • AND IS VIABLE TO ALL ACADEMICS MAJORS • THE MINOR PROVIDES ADDED VALUE TO THE STUDENT/ • CADETS UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE • THE ROTC DEPARTMENT PROVIDES ACCURATE DATA AND • MANAGEMENT FOR THE MINOR PROGRAM THROUGH THE • POLICITAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT • THE ROTC PROGRAM POSSESSES ALL FACULTY AND • FACILITIES REQUIRED TO TEACH THE MINOR • THOSE STUDENTS WHO WANT A LEADERSHIP MINOR MUST • BE A CONTRACTED CADET
