  2. What is the Auteur Theory? The Auteur Theory is a filmmaker who has a personal style and maintains a creative control over his or her work.

  3. Kanye West – Gold Digger. -Close ups. - Centre of the frame or towards the right. - Women Dancing alone, and around the men. (wearing little clothing) - Bright Colours. - Average time of each shot is around 2-3 seconds.- No background.- Women is all over one man. LL-Cool- J- Women wearing little clothing. They are also dancing.- Centre Frame- A mixture of colours, bright at times, black and white shots.-Being watched whilst they dance.- Women is all over one man.- Average shot length is around 3-4 seconds. Ne-Yo – So sick.- The right and centre of the frame.- Dark colours, blacks, whites, browns. - Shot changes are slow, average length for each one is around 5- 6 seconds.- Women is all over him.- Women wearing little clothing at times. - Close ups. Music Videos..

Similarities Between The Videos.. • There are a few main features within each of the videos that occur throughout the three looked at music videos directed by ‘Hype Williams’ These include:- How he uses the women, they are always wearing little clothing and dancing around men.-The women are being watched whilst they dance.- The women are being intimate with at least one man within each video. - People are positioned within the centre of the frame most of the time, and towards the left as well. - Each shot are reasonably long, lasting from around 3-6 seconds depending on the video. But there are a lot of different shots.-There are several close ups on the artist throughout the videos. -They have a repetitive nature, going back to the women doing the same thing, ie. Dancing, or the artist doing the same thing.

Hype Williams Life.. • Hype Williams is an American music and film director, born in 1970. • He began working with Classic Concepts Video Productions and his first opportunity came from, Lionel Martin and VJ Ralph McDaniels, ‘Filmakers with attitude’ moniker (FWA), this was his first video company.

Hype Williams Work.. • Williams has worked with many people, including: • Busta Rhymes- 2Pac- Missy Elliot- Coldplay-Christina Aguilera He has throughout the years experimented with different ‘signature styles’ examples of these are:- ‘Fisheye lense’-Placing shots in regular widescreen ratio, while a second shot is split and placed in the upper and lower bars. (this was shown within one of the example videos; Ne-Yo)-Combining a center camera focus on the artist or actor's body from the torso upward and a solid colour background with a soft different-colour light being shown in the center of the background

Does Hype Williams Fit In With The Auteur Theory? • Looking at some of the work that ‘Hype Williams’ has done he shows some aspects of the Auteur theory. • The theory is that it is ‘a filmmaker who has a personal style and maintains a creative control over his or her work. Williams fits with this, as with his videos he has shown some similar styles (signature styles) which reflects that he has his own personal style.
