  1. Q4 Week 3 Warm-ups for grammar and vocabulary

  2. Monday—grammar Commas Rule 1: Use a comma with a conjunction between two independent clauses. Rule 2: Use a comma after a dependent clause if it comes before an independent clause. Rule 3: Use a comma after an adverbial phrase if it’s at the beginning of the sentence.

  3. Monday—vocabulary Inclement (adjective) Context: The inclement weather that night made the perfect mysterious setting for our story. Contextual implications: (what do you think the word means in this context?) Word parts: (do you notice any helpful prefixes or suffixes?)

  4. Monday—vocabulary Inclement Definition: severe, harsh, rough (as in the weather); stormy. Not kind or merciful (as in a person). Variations: Inclemency (noun); inclemently (adverb)

  5. Tuesday—grammar Copy the sentences and add commas where needed. Giraffes are very tall and elephants are very large. Whenever I crave junk food I make myself chug a full glass of water. At the beginning of our class period the power went out.

  6. Tuesday—vocabulary Judicious (adjective) Context: It was very judicious of you to bring extra batteries for the flashlights. Contextual implications: (what do you think the word means in this context?) Word parts: (do you notice any helpful prefixes or suffixes?)

  7. Tuesday—vocabulary Judicious Definition: using or showing good judgment Variations: judiciously (adverb); judiciousness (noun)

  8. Wednesday—grammar Remove the commas that are not needed and explain. • I left my skateboard out, at the top of the stairs. • Why? • Kyle made lunch, and cleaned up after us. • Why? • I like to play music, when I get bored. • Why?

  9. Wednesday—vocabulary Latent (adjective) Context: His latent ability to climb mountains would be very useful one day. Contextual implications: (what do you think the word means in this context?) Word parts: (do you notice any helpful prefixes or suffixes?)

  10. Wednesday—vocabulary Latent Definition: present or existing but not visible or realized. Variations: latently (adverb)

  11. Thursday—grammar quiz Directions: add or remove commas wherever necessary. He was taking his sweet time getting ready and I grew tired. Just when I was about to give up the jar opened. The vermin ate up all the carrots, and destroyed the sprouting peas. Whenever I feel afraid, I like to hum to myself and it helps. Right in the middle of November we have to move.

  13. Thursday—vocabulary Malleable Definition: capable of being extended or shaped; adaptable Variations: malleably (adverb); malleability (noun); unmalleable (adjective)
