  2. Multiple Pathways to the Same End • In the past, the pathway to graduation looked like this: • General Education- Regular Alabama High School Diploma • Essentials/Life Skills- Alabama Occupational Diploma (AOD) • Alternate Achievement Standards- Certificate of Attendance

  3. Overview • Under the new One Diploma, there are multiple pathways to graduation! • General Education, Essentials/Life Skills, and Alternate Achievement Standards can earn a Alabama High School Diploma!!!

  4. General Education- • Must take the four core classes: • English 9, 10, 11, 12 • Algebra I, Geometry, Algebraic Connections, and Algebra II or Algebra with Finacnce • World History, American History I, American History II, and Gov’t/Economics • Physical Science, Biology, and two Science Electives (exp.- Marine Science or Zoology)

  5. General Education • Who would this pathway be appropriate for? • Anyone that wants to attend a four-year college straight out of high school. • Anyone who wants to play a college sport. The NCAA Clearinghouse will not recognize Essential/Life Skills Courses.

  6. Essentials/Life Skills • Formally known as Alabama Occupational Diploma (AOD) courses. • English Essentials 9, 10, 11, 12 • Algebraic Essentials A, Algebraic B, Geometry Essentials A, and Geometry Essentials B

  7. Essentials/Life Skills • Students with and without disabilities may take Essentials/Life Skills. • Students taking these courses may be eligible to attend a community college. • Essentials/Life Skills courses are taught by a highly qualified teacher. • Students can move in and out of this pathway. • If a student takes four or more Essentials/Life Skills courses, they will have to complete the Coop component.

  8. Conclusion • The mission is to have 100% of all students College and Career Ready! • A minimum of 24 credits are required to graduate. • A minimum of 26 credits are required to graduate with an Advanced Diploma. • Honors, Salutatorian, and Valedictorian must complete the highest pathway offered.
