INITIATIVE OVERVIEW - Rationale • Technology can be used in schools to engage at-risk students and improve Alberta’s high school completion rates. • Ongoing research into best practices in classroom technology implementation. • The results of this research will be shared with all jurisdictions.   13. Project Planning • A well-planned project is more likely to succeed. • A good project plan: • Features a Project Charter • Defines goals • Defines roles • Has a communication plan • Has a clear action plan • Establishes timelines and deadlines

  14. Essential ComponentsProject Charter • A project charter defines: • the scope • the objectives • the overall approach to the work • roles of team members • A template has been included in your folders

  15. Essential ComponentsDefine Goals • What is your vision? • What are your goals? • Are you ready? • Are the essential conditions in place to achieve your goals?

Essential ComponentsRoles and Responsibilities Project Manager – Alberta Education • Provide supports to participants • Track projects • Collect and summarize reports/deliverables • Share information and research among project participants • Plan events • Facilitate sharing of projects/ideas/best practices. • Other duties “as assigned” - 

Essential ComponentsRoles and Responsibilities Project Manager/Lead – Jurisdiction • Manage communications among project team and stakeholders • Information and strategies • Experience of success and challenges • Monitor timelines and offer “encouragement” when needed • Prepare and submit reports and other deliverables • Maintain “the vision” • Manage change/challenges • Celebrate Success

Essential ComponentsRoles and Responsibilities Project Team Members (teachers, admin, etc…) • Be aware of the project timelines and deliverables • Implement the project • Develop the necessary technological AND teaching skills • Use those skills with students • Evaluate student success • Communicate successes and challenges • Celebrate Success

Essential ComponentsCommunications Plan • Keeping all stakeholders informed will increase your probability of success and build support • The basic questions you want to consider for any communication: • Who are you trying to reach? • What do you want them to know? • How are you going to tell them? • How will you know if it worked? • A communications toolkit has been provided in your folders
