Program Status • Completed first year of program • Not all projects had a full year of work due to challenges with funding execution • Working funding levels for 2nd year of projects • Need to work with PIs and project teams to define 2nd year actions and milestones (Update SOWs) • Need to evaluate program processes to make any needed changes • Need LOs to provide annual updates of priorities • Need for annual meeting of Project Teams

PGRR Project Updates • Projects provided their quarterly reports for 4CY2012 • Summary created of project accomplishments, concerns, and future plans • Special emphasis requested for: • Interaction with your operational partner(s). • Conference/workshop participation • Funding concerns.  • Outside project publicity • New special emphasis areas in upcoming quarterly reports

  5. Project Accomplishments – Summary • TROPICAL CYCLONE: Worked on the center fixing routine and data collection for the intensity estimate algorithm. (DeMaria) • Project feedback was received in mid-December from the NHC focal point and co-PI Jack Beven regarding the progress this quarter. • NHC PG Telecon on 22 Jan • TROPICAL CYCLONE: Tested different HWRF initialization schemes, ranging according to the complexity (Weng) • Provided AMSR-II data for Hurricane Sandy to Mike Folmer who used it in blog • HURRICANE SANDY: Used VIIRS data and products in near-real-time to help support forecasting and relief efforts associated with Hurricane Sandy (Jedlovec) • Held a telecon with WFO partners who are able to make changes to AWIPS necessary for addition of VIIRS products • ACTIVE FIRES: Completed two fire weather telecons with NWS users, objective was to discuss JPSS Active Fire Product and possible applications in the NWS fire weather mission. Identified several 2012 fires to be used in PG work. (Csiszar) • DIRECT READOUT: CIMSS and SPORT worked with Alaska Region and GINA to ensure SNPP VIIRS imagery was made available to the AK Region and WMOs (Gumley) • Provided info on SNPP data architecture and latency for DB data to NWS in AK • SNPP SOUNDINGS: Obtained case studies using AIRS and CrIS data over the Alaskan and northwest Atlantic coastal regions (Weisz) • No direct interaction with operational partners documented • DAY./NIGHT BAND: Doing day vs. night comparisons of clouds at various lunar reflectance levels at vicarious calibration sites like White Sands (Walther) • No direct interaction with operational partners documented • OCEAN COLOR: Experimental VIIRS ocean color data & imagery are being distributed for all CoastWatch CONUS regions (Hughes) • User engagement meeting: NOS (9/25/2012. ), NMFS (11/5/2012), and NWS (12/7/2012)
