  2. FAST • One of the main goals of our Division is to provide safe and efficient movement of people and goods throughout the City. • All new developments must meet the accepted standards for design and construction of the public infrastructure.

FAST interacts with the community, other City/ County departments, and regional agencies in order to plan for the valley’s growing transportation needs and consists of three sections: • Traffic Operations, Project Management & Traffic Communications/ Maintenance • Responsibilities include: • Coordinates, designs, and implements the safe and efficient flow of traffic throughout Southern Nevada.

  4. A Brief History • In the 1980’s, the Las Vegas Area Computer Traffic System (LVACTS) was created; provided coordination between NDOT and the local entities (Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Clark County). • LVACTS controlled over 650 traffic signals • In 2003, LVACTS and the NDOT Freeway management system were combined into a single integrated organization (FAST).

  5. Evolution of FAST into RTC • Up until Summer 2004, FAST was under the administrative control of the City of Las Vegas. • FAST reported to the Operations Management Subcommittee (OMC). • In June 2004, FAST was incorporated into RTC.

  6. FAST TMC • In the summer of 2005, FAST moved into its new TMC building.

  7. FAST Today • FAST works closely with the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) out of their shared Traffic Management Center. • FAST controls nearly 1,100 of the approximately 1,500 traffic signals in Southern Nevada. • FAST also operates nearly 100 closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV). • In addition, FAST controls the valley’s freeway ramp meters, located on U.S. 95, I-515 and I-15.
