ACCESS Industrial Partnership Program Sören Andersson, Manager Antenna Systems and Propagation Access Technologies and Signal Processing Ericsson Research
Industrial Partnership Program A platform for interaction and cooperation with industrial partners • Framework to develop new third-party funded projects • Membership to ACCESS Industrial Advisory Board • Entrance for industry to other ACCESS activities • Excellent base for providing industry-access to the latest ideas in academia and possibilities for establishing joint research projects when similar interests arise • Ensures future availability of researchers with competence in ”industry-relevant” areas
Joint Research Projects • ACCESS Industrial Partnership Program provides an efficient organization and infrastructure for joint projects • Reduce number of administrative interfaces between ACCESS and industrial collaborators • Projects funded by industry and third parties such as • European framework programs • Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) • Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA)
ACCESS activities for industry ACCESS activities foster interaction for industry partners: • Seminar activity: e.g., Distinguished Lecture Series, Industrial Workshops • Mobility programs: academic and industrial researcher exchange including internships for PhD students • Graduate courses: participation in courses organized and funded by the Center • Contract education: requested and funded by partners • Annual research progress: meetings and reports
Project examples • Multi-antenna Transmission and Scheduling in IMT-Advanced • SERAN – simple and efficient radio access networks
Multi-antenna Transmission and Scheduling in IMT-Advanced Signal Processing and Communication Theory at KTH, Access Technologies and Signal Processing at Ericsson Research. Extension of an ongoing VINNOVA project. Keywords: Multi-antenna transmission, cooperative and opportunistic transmission, channel adaption, scheduling, channel sounding.
Multi-antenna Transmission and Scheduling in IMT-Advanced, cont. Main idea: Evaluate transmission schemes on real-world measured channels. Identify issues not found using standard channel models. New research problems. Wideband multi-antenna channel measurements done by Ericsson Research. Additional multi-site measurements done by KTH.
3G LTE: 4x4 MIMO Field-Experiments Ericsson HQ buildingin Kista Througput (Mbps/10MHz) Issue-at-hand: Link Adaptation- modulation/coding- antenna selection- transmit schemes
SERAN: Simple and efficient radio networks Aim: develop theory and methodologies that • Reduces innovation cycle for system suppliers, • Increases special efficiency, • Simplifies deployment and operations, and • Improves user experience Key components: • Distributed mechanisms for optimal radio resource management • Cooperative communications • Networking solutions for improved user-level performance
SERAN Draws from previous successful collaborations: • Advanced RRM, Network Coding (Vinnova/Branschforsk) Leverages on current EU project • Ecube, EuroNF, Sendora, Winner+ Includes specific actions for improved collaborations • Mobility program, internship program, workshops Team: • M. Johansson, G. Karlsson, M. Skoglund, … EES/KTH • J. Lundsjö, G. Fodor, P. Larsson, M. Prytz, … ERA
