  1. Measuring Angles 1.4 Ms. Verdino

  2. An angle is formed by two rays with the same endpoint. • The rays are the sides of the angle. • The endpoint is the vertex of the angle. • The interior of an angle is the region containing all of the points • between the two sides of the angle. • The exterior of an angle is the region containing all of the points • outside of the angle. Key vocabulary for angles

  3. Ways to name an angle: Vertex: Points on each ray: A number: Your turn! Vertex: Points on each ray: A number: Lets name some angles

  4. How to measure an angle

  5. Consider OB and a point A on one side of OB. Every ray of the form OA can be paired one to one with a real number from 0-180. Protractor Postulate

  6. Using the Protractor Postulate The measure of  COD is the absolute value of the difference of the Real numbers paired with OC and OD.

  7. Types of Angles

  9. Congruent Angles Angles with the same measure are congruent angles.

  10. If point B is in the interior of  AOC, then m AOB + m BOC = m AOC Angle Addition Postulate

  11. If m FHI=142, what are m FHG and m GHI? Using the Angle Addition Postulate
