  1. II. Grand Session Looking Forward

  2. Our Goal • To define the purpose of Grand Session, and have proposals by next Grand Session. • To redesign Grand Session to better achieve that purpose. Areas to be reviewed include finances, length of session, activities, venue and competitions. • Involve the girls in final decisions, especially about activities, venue and competition.

  3. Our Objective • Final changes to be implemented no later than 2011 – 2012 Grand Session.

  4. Let’s be honest • This task is going to require the Grand Guardian Council to work together in a most positive way. • This task is going to require everyone to keep AN OPEN MIND!!!!!!! • We can do this!

  5. The Purpose of Grand Session • To conduct the business of the Grand Guardian Council at the Annual meeting as outlined in the bylaws. • To bring together the girls around the state for competitions and camaraderie, building excitement for Job’s Daughters that is taken back to the local bethels.

  6. Our Proposal • Separate the Annual Meeting of the Grand Guardian Council and the Grand Bethel. • Reduce the number of days of Grand Bethel to 2.5 days. • Utilize Jobie University to adjust the scheduling of events currently scheduled during Grand Session.

  7. Grand Guardian Council • Change bylaws to allow for the Annual Meeting of the GGC to be held at a different time, perhaps the April GGC meeting could become the annual meeting. • During this meeting, conduct all business normally conducted during Grand Session, including Election of Officers.

  8. Grand Bethel • Continue holding Grand Bethel in June (scheduling with the girls really mandates this) • Begin Grand Bethel on Friday continuing through Sunday at noon.

  9. Proposed Schedule Friday 10:00am Ritual Competition 3:00pm Grand Bethel practice 4:00pm Formal Opening practice 6:00pm Formal Banquet 8:00pm Formal Opening

  10. Proposed Schedule (cont.) Saturday 9:00am – 11:00am Grand Bethel meeting 11:00am – 1:00pm Lunch and break time 1:00pm – 3:00pm Grand Bethel meeting (elections) 4:00pm GGC and GB joint installation practice 6:00pm Dinner followed by Competition Awards Ceremony 8:00pm Fun Activity (Variety/Talent show, carnival, or another activity)

  11. Proposed Schedule (cont.) Sunday 7:00am New Officer breakfast (both GGC and GB) 8:00am Church Service 9:00am Retiring Ceremony 9:30am GGC and GB joint installation 12:00noon Depart

  12. So where is the pageant? • Move the Miss SD Job’s Daughter pageant and Spirit Ambassador competition to Jobie University • Saturday evening at Jobie U. could be a formal pageant and awards ceremony for the Spirit Ambassadors • Take these activities into consideration when looking at venues for Jobie University.

  13. Digging a Little Deeper • Ceremonies held during Grand Session • For example, Necrology Ceremony – do we have a formal ceremony or could we implement a display, “Wall of Remembrance”, to honor those we’ve lost. Bethels could assist the Grand Chaplain in preparing the display. • Ritual Competition – can we make changes to better streamline competition? • Bethel Competition

  14. Directives from retreat • Review competitions • Review Grand Reps • Review venues, finances, lengths of sessions

  15. Did we cover everything? • Not even close! But it’s a start. • Keep in mind, this is a massive “overhaul” of our current system. We can leave no stone unturned. • In our opinion, the best approach is to address this in stages. First, GGC needs to decide if the proposal would work. Then, the committee can focus on additional details. • Let’s not put the cart before the horse.
