Teaching Strategies • Use learning centers to teach skills. • Explore equipment and materials • Observe children’s physical performance. • Demonstrate the skill to be mastered and incorporate do-it signals. • Support the child’s learning. • Intersperse guided practice w/ modeling. • Emphasize qualitative over quantitive.

  5. More Strategies • Provide encouragement and feedback. • Use problem-solving strategies to explore movement concepts. • Encourage suggestions/input from students. • Establish guidelines for safety, level of participation, and respect for others.

  6. Health, Nutrition, & Safety • Plan vigorous physical activity every day. • Model “good” fitness and health habits. • Incorporate health and safety information where applicable. • Communicate regularly with parents. • Use mealtimes to teach nutrition.

  7. Health continued • When talking about food choices, use the phrase better choice rather than “good” and “bad” foods.
