Advantages of UNA MAED @ASU • Provides local opportunity for area elementary classroom teachers to earn the master’s degree. • Requires a practicum that can be completed in the teacher’s classroom and tailored to address the specific learning outcomes for the class. • Leads to a recommendation for Alabama Class A Professional Educator certification and an automatic increase in pay. UNA MAED@ASU

  3. UNA MAED@ASU • All courses are offered in a hybrid format. • Tuition is $276 per credit hour for graduate courses. • Fees vary per credit hour but many of those assessed for UNA on-campus courses may be waived for the ASU program. UNA MAED@ASU

  4. Application Process • Complete the Application for Admissions and submit a $25 application processing fee. • Note on Application that this is for ATHENS Program. • Request that official transcripts from all institutions where you earned undergraduate and graduate credit be forwarded to the UNA Office of Admissions. • Have PRAXIS, GRE, or MAT scores sent to UNA • Have confirmation of Alabama Class B Teaching Certificate sent to UNA UNA MAED@ASU

  6. Financial Aid • Students may apply for unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans, by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Typically, a student must be enrolled in two graduate classes per semester [considered half-time] to qualify for federal student loans. An online application and additional information is available at UNA’s Student Financial Services website. UNA MAED@ASU

Length of Program • Most teachers who work full time take six credit hours per semester • Courses are offered in late afternoon or early evening to accommodate teacher’s work schedules • Many teachers take twelve credit hours during the summer session • By taking six credit hours during the regular academic year and twelve credit hours during the summer, candidates are able to complete the MAED in Elementary Education within two calendar years UNA MAED@ASU
