UN Food Security Initiatives WMO input through education and training in: • Agricultural Meteorology • Climate analysis and monitoring • Seasonal forecasts and climate prediction • Weather modification WCC-3 in Sept 2009 will focus on application of climate products and services. WMO No. 258 The uncertain natureof the standards is causingconfusion WMO Executive Councilhas asked us to sort thisout. The aviation qualsdefinition will probably becomea technical regulation Aviation Qualifications ICAO 258 is minimum set of desirable qualifications
WMO 258 – 5th Edition? • 4th edition published in 2002 • In 2007 WMO Congress made “258” a mandatory publication requiring a new edition every 8 years • Will allow clarification of some ambiguities in current ed.
My goals for the ETRP • Clarify the training needs of the WMO Members and the capability of the WMO to meet these needs • Work with the training groups to improve the quality and quantity of education and training available to WMO Members
Key is improving Collaboration and coordination • Within the Secretariat • Between the Secretariat and providers • Between the providers
