  1. Denmark – Wind Power HUB Sune Strøm Economist Danish Wind Industry Association

  2. In 2009 the Danish capacity increased with 10% to 3,484 MW. The best year since 2002! • Onshore • New installed: 116 MW • Decommissioned: 33 MW • Capacity, end of 2009: 2,823 MW • Offshore • New installed: 238 MW • Capacity, end of 2009: 661 MW

  3. In 2013 wind power will cover app. 30% of the power production in Denmark and this percentage will continue until 2020 if there are no new political agreements Djursland-Anholt

  4. 30 % wind power is almost enough contribution to reach the Danish target of 30 % renewable energy in 2020 • The Danish Energy Agency expects that with no further political actions, Denmark will reach 28.3% of renewable energy in 2020 • The missing 1.7%-points can be reached by different means, e.g. • More wind turbines • More energy saving • More biomass, biofuels etc.

  5. The Danish Wind Industry will strengthen the Danish Wind Power Hub by setting a target for 50% wind power in 2020 • The target will push to the development of the power system in the following ways: • A more electrical based society in terms of e.g. electrical vehicles, trains and electrical based heating systems • Price responsive power consumption ensuring an economic incentive leading to a more flexible power demand • More and extended interconnectors to other countries distributing the power to the markets with the highest demand • Ensure the demand for the needed technological solutions in the energy sector, including the wind industry, the utilities etc. • Keep Denmark as a showcase with the highest production and consumption percentage supplied by wind power

  6. The 50 % target will however not lead to a big market for turbines in Denmark – the country is too small! • The expected installation in 2020 will be: • 3,800 MW onshore • 2,550 MW offshore • 6,350 MW in total. • Installation per year will increase with app. 100 MW more onshore and offshore respectively than the expected development from the Danish Energy Agency
