  1. We do not have ALL information about God, Jesus, etc. • (John 21:25) • And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen. (NKJV)

  2. “Enough is Enough” Does God continue to reveal new thoughts to men today?

  3. We know enough to please God. • (Deuteronomy 29:29) • "The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (NKJV)

  4. God gave us enough information. • (John 20:30-31) • And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. (NKJV)

  5. Modern Revelation: Mormons • “God called a prophet in 1820 and we've had one ever since.” – Greg West, a Mormon and a writer for examiner.com • "How wonderful it is that we believe in modern revelation...There never was a time in the history of the earth when men needed revelation more than they need it now." – Gordon B. Hinckleye, Inspirational Thoughts, Ensign. Sept. 2007, 6 quoted on http://lds.org, official site of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (a.k.a. Mormons)

  6. Modern Revelation: Muslims • “At the age of 40, while engaged in a meditative retreat, Muhammad received his first revelation from God through the Angel Gabriel. This revelation, which continued for twenty-three years, is known as the Quran.” • – www.islamcity.org

  7. Modern Revelation: Charismatic and Pentecostal Christians • “Edward Irving is to be considered among the first true Neo- Montanists due to his beliefs the restoration of the charismatic gifts, including prophecy…” – http://www.bible.ca

  8. Modern Revelation: Quakers • “Because there is that of God in everyone, anyone at any time may express God's leadings. Therefore, revelation, or messages from God, is continuous. Friends affirm that God inspired the writing of the Bible and other sacred literature and is still inspiring us. Although we are not always receptive, God continues to reveal Divine guidance and unchanging truth to all of us today, just as in the past. “ – http://www.quaker.org • “continuing revelation is the result of having the Inner light or the light within...Some Friends consider the Bible the ultimate authority, but others consider the Inner light to be above the Bible. Both groups believe that Christ speaks to people directly and not just through the text of the Bible.” - http://www.experiencefestival.com

  9. Modern Revelation: Catholics • “Vatican II explained the doctrine of infallibility as follows: "Although the individual bishops do not enjoy the prerogative of infallibility, they can nevertheless proclaim Christ’s doctrine infallibly.” • - http://www.catholic.com/library/Papal_Infallibility.asp

  10. Modern Revelation: Seventh-Day Adventists • “ELLEN G. WHITE (1827-1915) …is considered to have been inspired by God.” - Ellen G. White, 1975 paperback edition (back cover)

  11. Modern Revelation: Others • Christian Science Church • Jehovah’s Witnesses • Other Smaller Denominations and Independent Groups

  12. Some Revelation Still Occurs Today! • (Psalms 19:1-2) <<To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.>> The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. (NKJV)

  13. Some Revelation Still Occurs Today! • (Romans 16:25) Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began (NKJV) • (Ephesians 1:17) that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, (NKJV)

  14. 4 Reasons Modern Continuous Revelation No Longer Occurs Today: • Reason #1: Jesus said the apostles would be lead into all truth.

  15. Guided Into All Truth • (John 14:26) "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. (NKJV) • (John 16:12-13) "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. (NKJV)

  16. 4 Reasons Modern Continuous Revelation No Longer Occurs Today: • Reason #1: Jesus said the apostles would be lead into all truth. • Reason #2: The apostles claimed that truth was revealed to them.

  17. All Things Pertaining to Life & Godliness Given • (2 Peter 1:3) • as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, (NKJV)

  18. Whole Council of God Given • (Acts 20:20) "how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, (NKJV) • (Acts 20:26-27) "Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. "For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. (NKJV)

  19. Moses Couldn’t Declare the “whole council of God” • (Deuteronomy 18:15-18) • "The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, "according to all you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, 'Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.' "And the LORD said to me: 'What they have spoken is good. 'I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. (NKJV)

  20. Isaiah Couldn’t Declare the “whole council of God” • (Isaiah 42:1-4) • "Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles. He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, Nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth. He will not fail nor be discouraged, Till He has established justice in the earth; And the coastlands shall wait for His law." (NKJV)

  21. Malachi Couldn’t Declare the “whole council of God” • (Malachi 3:1) • "Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight. Behold, He is coming," Says the LORD of hosts. (NKJV)

  22. Jeremiah Couldn’t Declare the “whole council of God” • (Jeremiah 31:31) • "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah- (NKJV)

  23. The Claims of the New Covenant in Contrast: • (2 Timothy 3:16-17) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (NKJV)

  24. 4 Reasons Modern Continuous Revelation No Longer Occurs Today: • Reason #1: Jesus said the apostles would be lead into all truth. • Reason #2: The apostles claimed that truth was revealed to them. • Reason #3: Special revelation of God’s will was once given for all time.

  25. Delivered “Once” (Jude 3) Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. (NKJV) (Hebrews 9:26-28) He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. (NKJV) • “once” Jesus came to earth, He dies “once”, He bore sins “once” and faith was delivered “once”

  26. 4 Reasons Modern Continuous Revelation No Longer Occurs Today: • Reason #1: Jesus said the apostles would be lead into all truth. • Reason #2: The apostles claimed that truth was revealed to them. • Reason #3: Special revelation of God’s will was once given for all time. • Reason #4: The apostle Paul declared that prophecies would fail (1 Cor. 13:8-13).

  27. Prophecies Would Fail • (1 Corinthians 13:8-13) • Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (NKJV)

  28. Knowledge (Knowing Without Studying ) • (Matthew 10:19-20) • "But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; "for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. (NKJV)

  29. In I Cor. 13:8 Paul said such knowledge would “vanish away.” • (1 Corinthians 13:8) • Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. (NKJV)

  30. 1 Corinthians (53-57 A.D.) = an Early Addition to the New Testament

  31. Purpose For Miracles • (Mark 16:20) • And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. (NKJV)

  32. Each inspired Writer Received a “Part” • (1 Corinthians 13:9) For we know in part and we prophesy in part. (NKJV)

  33. The coming of “that which is perfect” marks the end of revelations. • (1 Corinthians 13:10) • But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. (NKJV)

  34. Perfect = Complete, Mature • (Matthew 5:48) "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.(NKJV) • (Matthew 19:21) Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." (NKJV)

  35. “That Which is Perfect” • (James 1:25) • But he who looks intothe perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. (NKJV)

  36. “Looking Into” The Perfect Law of Liberty • (1 Corinthians 13:11-12) When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. (NKJV)

  37. Ancient Mirrors = Polished Metals • (Exodus 38:8) He made the laver of bronze and its base of bronze, from the bronze mirrors of the serving women who assembled at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. (NKJV)

  38. Bronze Mirror

  39. All Further Revelations: Untrue • (Galatians 1:8-9) But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. (NKJV)

  40. Got Revelation? • (Psalms 119:105) • NUN. Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. (NKJV)
