  2. Hmmmm……. • Answer the following questions to yourself. • How does the career you choose affect your income? • What employee characteristics are important to an employer? • How do education and training affect your salary? • What is an entrepreneur? • What are employee benefits?

  3. Career vs. Job • List the characteristics of a career and the characteristics of a job.

  4. Education • General Rule: • The more education you have, the higher your income. • Look at the table provided for the difference in incomes depending on your level of education.

  5. Entrepreneurship • An entrepreneur is… • A person who creates a business from scratch • Self-employed • Strong sense of discipline • Must beat the competition • To become an entrepreneur one must… • See an opportunity • Take the initiative and develop a plan

  6. What Employers Want • Employers want Employees who: • Are dependable • Are Good problem solvers • Are Highly productive • Work well with others • Deliver high quality work • Have great attitudes

  7. What Employees Want • Employee Benefits • Paid vacation • Paid sick leave • Health plan • Retirement plan • Tuition reimbursement

  8. Cost of Living • The cost of living includes items such as rent or home costs, transportation, insurance, utilities such as gas, electricity and food. • If the cost of living goes up but your wages/salary do not, you end up being broke!
