  2. Activity • With a partner- come up with an appropriate punishment for the crime/action committed. • Come up with a past punishment and a present punishment.

  3. 1 • What should be done to the carpenter who builds a house that falls and kills the owner?

  4. Answer • The builder of the house shall be put to death.

  5. 2 • What should be done when a “sister of god” (nun) enters the wine shop for a drink?

  6. Answer • They shall burn the woman to death.

  7. 3 • What happens if a man is unable to pay his debts.

  8. Answer • He shall sell his wife, son, or daughter, or bind them over to service. For 3 years they shall work in the house of their master. Their fourth year they will be given their freedom.

  9. 4 • What happens to the wine seller who fails to arrest bad characters gathered at his/her shop?

  10. Answer • IF the wine seller does not arrest those characters then the wine seller will be put to death.

  11. 5 • What should be done about a wife who ignores her duties and belittles her husband?

  12. Answer • The woman shall be thrown in the water.

  13. 6 • What should be done if a son is adopted and then the birth parents want him back?

  14. Answer • If a man takes in his home a young boy and raises him, one may not bring claim for that adopted son.

  15. 7 • What should happen to a boy who slaps his father?

  16. Answer • The boys hand will be cut off.

  17. 8 • How is the truth determined when one man brings accusations against another?

  18. Answer • The accused man will go to the river and leap in the river. If he sinks in the river his accuser will take possession of his house. But if the river proves that the accused is not guilty the accuser will be put to death and the accused will get the accusers house.

  20. Answer • His bottom lip will be cut off!

Simple assault is defined by Georgia Statute as attempting to commit a violent injury to another person, or putting someone in a situation where it is reasonable that they will receive a violent injury. • Aggravated assault is committed if the assault is with an intention of robbing, raping, or murdering, or if the assault is committed with a weapon that could cause serious injury, or if a firearm is discharged from a vehicle towards a person(s).

  28. Answer • Robbery is a felony offense. If you are convicted, you will serve 1 to 20 years in prison. If the alleged victim is older than 65-years old, you will face a harsher sentence of 5 to 20 years. • Armed robbery carries a potential sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison.

  30. Answer • If this is your first offense, you will be charged with a misdemeanor and face up to $1,000 in fines and one year in prison. However, if this is your second or subsequent offense, you will be charged with a felony and face a potential sentence of 1 to 5 years in prison

  31. 13 • Burglary is defined as entering or remaining in any dwelling, building, vehicle, or structure without permission with the intent to commit a felony within. • Someone breaks into a house with intent to steal an XBOX and pop tarts.

  32. Answer • first conviction for burglary, you will face 1 to 20 years in prison. However, if you have prior convictions, the penalties will be more severe. • second burglary conviction carries 2 to 20 years, and a third carries 5 to 20 years.
