  2. TEACHING – LEARNING METHODS N.KOKILA B.Ed., (Mathematics) M.PREMALATHA B.Ed., (Tamil)

  3. Abstract Define the various T-L methods that can be used for large or small groups. 1. Control based Teacher control and learner control 2. Group size based Large Small Individual

  4. Teaching- Learning Methods

  5. Control based • Teacher controlled lecture, symposium, tutorial, demonstration bed side clinic • Learner controlled free group discussion, project, self study, programmed study

  6. Group sized

  7. T-L methods available for a large group Lecture : • A careful presentation of facts in an • organized manner by a qualified person • One way activity • Commonest teaching method

  8. How to makes lectures more effective 1.Plan carefully 2.Deliver confidently

  9. Evaluation of a lectureBest way to improve oneself

  10. “Tell them what you are going to say, then say it clearly, then tell them what you have said.”

  11. T- L methods for small groups “Tell them what you are going to say, then say it clearly, then tell them what you have said.” ‘10 minutes of discussion is better than 1 hour of lecture’

  12. T-L methods available for small groups • Group discussions • Seminar • Tutorial Demonstration • Practical ( lab, bedside or field work) • Role play • Workshop

  13. Group Discussion • Methodical and structured discussion of a specific topic, designed to gain and give more information on the topic.

  14. Seminar • Persons who are engaged in advanced studies, come together and discuss a topic in depth under the guidance of an expert, no audience. • Needs an expert. • Group needs to prepare before

  15. Tutorial • A small group of learners are guided by a teacher to understand a matter well • Improves under standing, clears doubts • Ideal teacher-student ratio, ideal assessment • Needs preparation by both, for effectiveness • But authority – dependant method.

  16. Demonstration • For skill development- second stage • After theory and general instructions • Followed by actual practice • Effective demonstration : stay at the level of learner demonstrate each step, stress on main points, engage all students, slow or fast

  17. Bedside teaching • Active learning • Limited group, good interaction • Connectivity between theory and practice • Develops scientific thoughts, (Observation, problem solving, decision taking) • Evaluation of all domains • Poor standardization, high cost

  18. Role play • Acting out a situation • Mainly for affective domain: study the behavior develop self-awareness, empathy create attitudinal change • Role play simulation develops communication skills

  19. Workshop • Experienced persons with an expert • To find solution for a practical problem • Hands-on-experience • Many T-L methods can be used • Lot of preparation is needed.

  20. T-L Methods for Individual

  21. T-L methods available for individuals • Reading books, notes / web search • Programmed learning • Project • Assignment • Conference • Counseling

  22. Programmed learning • Self learning, using work book, for attaining a specific level of performance • Stepwise instruction with instant feedback • Good pace for a slow learner • Programmed module needs lot of time and effort

  23. Project • Investigation of a problem and formulation of a solution for it • Theme is chosen by the learner • Significant unit of practical activity with educational value, leading to more than one goal of understanding • Useful in developing skills of information processing and scientific thinking

  24. Assignment • Similar to project • Activity chosen by the teacher • Individual but with in a group, • Involves active learning • Develops problem solving ability

  25. Conference Counseling • Conference One to one interaction between a learner and a teacher, called by the teacher ( low achievers / slow learners / absentees) • Counseling: similar to conference, student seeks the teacher, for academic or personal problems

  26. conclusion Binally I conclued that controlleed based & group size based learning is effective learning teaching method.

  27. Kokila & Prema • Thank U
