  5. Since April 2009, NHS organisations have been legally required to register with the Care Quality Commission under the Health and Social Care Act 2008. As a legal requirement of their registration they must protect patients, workers and others who may be at risk of acquiring a healthcare associated infection. Further requirements will apply from 2010/11 for services currently registered under the Care Standards Act 2000, to include private and voluntary healthcare and social care services. The early introduction of the requirement related to healthcare associated infections reflects the high priority and commitment to reducing infections associated with NHS healthcare. http://mrsaactionuk.net
