  • There are currently 435 members of the House of Representatives, as well as 6 Delegates from territories
  • Each representative is elected to a two-year term
  • To be elected, a representative must be at least 25 years old, a United States citizen for at least seven years and an inhabitant of the state he or she represents.

  • There are 100 Senators (2 from each state)
  • Each Senator is elected to a six-year term
  • To be elected, a Senator must be at least 30 years old, a United States citizen for at least nine years and an inhabitant of the state he or she represents.
  • Senate is considered a more prestigious, more continuous body

  • National Elections take place every even-numbered year. Every four years the president, vice president, one-third of the Senate, and the entire House are up for election (on-year elections). On even-numbered years when there isn't a presidential election, one-third of the Senate and the whole House are included in the election (off-year elections).
