INTRODUCTION • Interest in animal welfare in Jordan started early and still so far as we are a Muslim people, we are committed to the teachings of Islamic Sharia law, which urges the Humane and good treatment as recommended BY our Prophet Muhammad , and also since the establishment of the Jordanian state and the issuance of laws have been allocated some legal articles for the protection of animals and the ones mentioned in Agriculture law, which was issued in 1925, 1973 as well as the current law No. 44 of the year 2002 .

  3. Laws and regulations governing animal welfare • Special By-LOW have been issued for Animal Welfare under Article 57 of the current Agriculture law on the bases of the teachings of Islamic Sharia law and the principles of the five freedoms of animal welfare • 1 - Agriculture temporary law No. 44 of 2002, Article 57: This article provides the mechanisms to deal with different kinds of animals are guaranteed not to expose animals to any risk due to bad practices to and protect it, as well as texts and punishments against violators of Article

  4. Laws and regulations governing animal welfare • Animal welfare By-Law No. (11)of the year 2010 : • In accordance to the article (3) of Animal Welfare Law of the year 1925 and article (57) of the agriculture Law no. 44 of the year 2002

  5. the competent authorities which implement AW legislations Ministry Of Agriculture Greater Amman Municipality Volunteer Agencies

  6. Ministry of Agriculture • 1 - the issuance of licenses for the establishment of zoos and circus shows and shows of ornamental fish and birds.   2 - Requiring importers of live animals by applying standards of of animal welfare at transport and slaughter. 3 - Contact with international organizations such as the OIE by presence and care activities for animal welfare. 4 - coordination among all the concerned authorities in Jordan to develop and implement the instructions of of animal welfare .

  7. Greater Amman Municipality • GAM is interested in the application of animal welfare standards in the following areas: 1 - Department of slaughterhouses: where the workers of slaughterhouses applying the principles of of animal welfare at all stages of the slaughter of animals as well as training of personnel at deferent levels and the development of infrastructure and facilities design of slaughterhouse to comply with international standards for animal welfare

Volunteer agencies HRH Princess Alia Foundation: Animal welfare is an important part of their work mainly the application of the principles of of animal welfare in all areas and contribute significantly disseminating a culture and the development of of animal welfare legislation locally and internationally

  9. Volunteer agencies SPANA • It is A global association dealing with the protection of animals and has a branch in Jordan is making a big efforts by offering therapeutic services for working animals of equine family and pets through their hospital on the outskirts of Amman, as well as provide training for veterinarians in private and public sector in the field of diagnosis and treatment of diseases of horses .

  10. The Challenges • 1- Lake of proper training programs . • 2-weake and insufficient legislations in some AW topics . • 3- low public awareness for animal welfare issues .
