  6. Population issues • Population Explosion - over 1 billion people in India - 2nd most populated country in the world - rapid growing populations in all countries • Lack of resources - services for people - food, water, and shelter

  7. Education as key • Education Path - break the cycle of poverty - government with limited resources • Spending - more on male education - $300 per student v. US at $9000 • Improve status - jobs - reduce need for large families

  8. Extreme Weather • Monsoons - summer monsoons bring heavy rains, critical to agriculture - winter monsoons bring limited moisture • Damaging weather - destruction of crops - destruction of weak infrastructure
