  1. “All You Need is You” The Kinect Sensor Arthur Reis

  2. Video game consoles • The Seventh generation era:

  3. Project Natal • On June 1st, 2009, Microsoft announced a project to incorporate a motion sensing input device to its console Xbox 360. • "Project Natal" was named as a tribute to the Brazilian Microsoft director Alex Kipman, who incubated the project, and to make the idea as "the birth of the next generation of home entertainment“. • KINECT = kinetic + connect

  4. launch • Microsoft had an advertising budget of US$500 million for the launch of Kinect. • November 4th, 2010 – USA • November 18th, 2010 – Brazil • After selling a total of 8 million units in its first 60 days, the Kinect holds the Guinness World Record of being the "fastest selling consumer electronics device".

  5. The kinect sensor •  Based around a webcam-style, it enables users to control and interact with the Xbox 360 without the need to touch a game controller, through a natural user interface using gestures and spoken commands. • The processing is handled by one of the processor cores of Xbox 360’s Xenon CPU. • Consumes 10-15% of Xbox computing resources. • You need at least 2 meters away from your TV.

  6. The device • Connectivity: USB 2.0. • Platform: Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows. • Resolution: 640 x 480 pixels @ 30 Hz (RGB camera and IR depth-finding camera). • Microsoft released a non-commercial Kinect software development kit for Windows on June 16, 2011, that will allow .Net developers to write Kinecting apps in C++/CLI, C#, or Visual Basic .NET. • Microsoft will launch in beginning of 2012 a version for Windows.

  7. Why Kinect? • Full Body Gaming Controller-free gaming means full body play. Kinect responds to how you move. So if you have to kick, then kick. If you have to jump, then jump. You already know how to play. All you have to do now is to get off the couch. • It’s All About You Once you wave your hand to activate the sensor, your Kinect will be able to recognize you and access your Avatar. Then you'll be able to jump in and out of different games, and show off and share your moves.

  8. Why Kinect? • Use Your Voice Kinect uses advanced entertainment technology to respond to the sound of your voice. Just say "Xbox" to reveal a series of voice commands. So you'll be able to control HD movies with the sound of your voice—no remote required. • Something For Everyone Whether you're a gamer or not, anyone can play and have a blast. And with advanced parental controls and movies for the family, Kinect promises a gaming experience that's safe, secure and fun for everyone.
