3. Setting • It is set during the school year (mainly fall) • There are a few settings: • Massie’s backyard Halloween Party • Octavian Country Day School • It takes place in Westchester, New York.

4. Characters • Massie Block-Leader of the Pretty Committee. She doesn’t like Claire and at OCD a lot of girls copy her. • Dylan Marvil-Member of the Pretty Committee. She is usually with Massie and has a famous mother. • Kristen Gregory-Also a member of the Pretty Committee. She's the smartest and has a mother who makes her wear approved clothing, but then changes into Massie-approved clothes at school. • Alicia Rivera-Fourth member of the Pretty Committee. She is Spanish and usually wears only Ralph Lauren. • Claire Lyons-She’s still out. She wants to be in. She moved into Massie’s guest house. She finds a way to get into the Pretty Committee and be friends with Massie. She moved to Westchester from Florida.

5. Plot • Massie is at her dad’s birthday dinner and Claire’s little brother Todd spills grape juice on her. • The Pretty Committee and the rest of the 7th grade are on a field trip to get pumpkins(the Pretty Committee thinks it’s lame). • Massie and Claire have a party-planning meeting with a professional party-planner to plan the Halloween party. • Massie and the Pretty Committee ‘accidentally’ meet up at the mall when Massie is supposed to be shopping with Claire. • Massie and the Pretty Committee wear their Halloween costumes to school and get in a lot of trouble. • Since the Pretty Committee violated OCD’s dress code, they have to wear uniforms, so they have a Uniform Design contest. • Massie and Claire have the most votes but Alicia and Olivia switch the pictures on the vote boxes so they can win.

Conflict and Resolution • Massie vs. Claire • Massie and Claire do a contest that you can’t wear the same thing more than one time in one month. • Claire vs. the Pretty Committee • Claire and the Pretty Committee are competing to be Massie’s friend(Claire)and to stay Massie’s friend(the Pretty Committee). • Massie, Claire, Dylan & Kristen vs. Alicia & Olivia • Massie, Claire, Dylan, and Kristen are a team for the Uniform Design contest and have more votes than Alicia and Olivia, but they cheat so Massie, Claire, Dylan and Kristen don’t win(they cheat by switching the vote box labels.) • Resolution: Everyone is friends again and the Pretty Committee puts up with Olivia.

7. Theme • I think the theme in Best Friends For Never is that friends are more important than winning contests. • Friends are more important than winning a contest because you don’t get any benefits from that. Even though the whole school would be wearing or using something you made, but there’s more to having friends. You always have someone there for you and someone that cares about you. And I think that’s way better than winning a contest. • This theme best represents the story because during the Uniform Design contest, all Massie cared about was winning. She didn’t care that Alicia left the Pretty Committee, but later she realized that she wanted Alicia back in the Pretty Committee.

8. Personal Book Review I really liked Best Friends For Never. It is funny, dramatic, and exciting. It is the second book in the Clique series. It is a really good book and one of the most dramatic in the Clique series. I would recommend this book to girls because it is more of a girl book.
