  1. Elaboration: 5 Types We Studied: • Sensory details • Examples (like your reds/pinks)

  2. What Type of Elaboration? #6 As my mom always says every Christmas morning, “Santa ate all the cookies and drank all the milk.”

  3. What Type of Elaboration? #7 When surveyed, 90 out of 100 students reported fall was their favorite season. #8 During the fall, the multi-colored leaves of red, orange, and yellow slowly fall from the drooping branches of the trees. The cool, crisp air smells of pine as tiny, wet raindrops fall on the greenish-brown neighborhood lawns.

  4. What Type of Elaboration? #9 Every winter, my family and I travel to Whistler to go snow skiing. Last December, we drove five hours to the mountain. We stayed four days, skiing from eight in the morning until four in the afternoon each day. #10 As William Shakespeare stated, “April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.”

  5. What Type of Elaboration? #11 Once, when my brother was five-years old, we went to my grandma’s house in San Diego. Because it was summer, we spent hour upon hour in my grandmother’s pool. We’d splash, race, and generally have fun all day long. #12 Over a million people have summer homes in the United States.

  6. What Type of Elaboration? #13 “Jimmy, come to dinner.” Those are the only words that will get me into the house on a summer, vacation day. #14 Blooming in vivid colors of purple, blue, yellow, and pink, the tulips sprouted throughout my mom’s garden. The green leaves and stems complimented the opening tulip buds sprouting from the wet, moldable, brown soil.

  7. Question? #15 How many paragraph MINIMUM must your favorite season essay (and any MSP essay) be? #16 Can your essay be longer than five paragraphs? #17 What colors go in the introduction and conclusion paragraphs?
