  1. A day with the Mohawks By Richard Toe

  2. My story • my name is Hurrit • It means handsome, in this case am! • I am a part of the Mohawk tribe. • Me and my family live in native America • It is the year 1727 • I am 14 This is my story

  3. Our housing • 1727 January 1st: Our houses are nice and we are very, very civilized citizens so we would have a nice house. We have individual houses but I like to stay in the long house. My father was one of the first people to make it. It was made out hard-soft clay, sticks and buffalo meat. The buffalo meat made it smell good all the time. I sleep in the 32nd room to the right. We have feast in here all the time. When we have celebrations, the woman, (including momma) decorate it with grass and more. That guy up there is dancing because we got snow. He is my uncle bob. He is half American. He is a crazy guy1

  4. CLOTHING AND STYLE • 1727: January 15: I was asleep dreaming about being like my father, when all of a sudden my brother Akecheta came in and punched me and said, hey get up, get dressed we are going hunting! I told him to go while I dress. I got out of bed and looked at all of my outfits. I think I am going to wear my hunting outfit. The men wear these cool feather dresses. They have a fur hood on the back. The woman were these long dresses that show there… rather odd style. MY outfit is fresh! My moccasins are very cool and I can were that when I go hunting. What some cool shoes!

  5. FOOD • January 25: 1727: I'm hungry! Good thing the family feast is today! We are having it in the family longhouse today. I cant wait. My mom is walking us there now. I see a bunch of kids dancing happily. I here the loud music as we walk threw the forest. I here my uncle, singing. When I was walking I smelled the delicious, corn, the rice, beans, the great and yummy relish topped deer, and my favorite grouse( a yummy soup), rabbit, wild turkey, fruit, berries and more! When I walk in I see a t5able full of all the yummy food I smell. I ran straight to the table and hand picked my foods. I didn’t even bless my family! I even went and dipped my finger in the jelly sauce. That food up in the corner right is called the quarry. It is shaped like us mohawks!

  6. Mohawk tribe geographyStory told by: hurrit

  7. Terrain of my tribe • My tribe lives in a area around Canada Our leader settled here about 400 years ago. I live near a forest for hunting. We moved here because were we were living before some white men had told us to move or he will take our gold and our buffalo, and our spices.

  8. Ecosystem! • When me and my brother go to training, for hunting, we learn about ecosystem. It is clean water here and many plants grow. We have really tall trees. But our land is clear. Our animals are fun to hunt. We have bears, rabbits, birds and wolves. But you better watch out for them! They bite! We also have shrubs and wild flowers.

  9. Common plants • Today my mother wants me and my little brother to pick out flowers and plants for my fathers birthday. We sing our birthday songs: shuvo jonmodin! Happy birthday! He loves wild flowers. And when I say love- he would of married one of those instead of my mother. We pulled some of those. Then we also have more common plants; Aquilegia Canadensis, and more. My favorite to smell is the moccasin flower. It smells awesome. When we came back to the hut, father was in his bed sleeping. Mother started to sing -shuvo jonmodin! He woke up and kissed my mother. I took the flowers out of the basket. Before I pulled out the flowers my father screamed are those… wild flowers? I responded with a lie. No, I said. I pulled it out and his face blossomed. Thank you so much hurrit. Your welcome dad, I responded.

  10. common animals • It was fall and everyone had to go hunting. I wanted to go with my friends but it turned out they had winter fever. So it was just me and my cousin and brother. At least I had my cousin. My mother and father taught us to hunt our selves and so we did. They drafted away at the hut. “There is many scary animals out here,” I said. Be a man hurrit! Jacques replied. I'm only thirteen! I heard a million growls coming from the woods. Um did you guys hear that? No said my brother. Then I saw a wolf. I shot at it. Then missed. My little brother screamed and shot it. He made it. That was close! I said. Yeah! Said my cousin. You guys are wimps said my brother. That was one of the common animals. Then I saw a cute little rabbit. I took my bow and hit its head. Scary shot! Another common animal. Then there were many others like cubs, dear, and more.

  11. Journal entry 3 told by: hurrit weather

  12. Weather • Brr! It is cold! I just wish we hadn't moved to Canada! Mom, can we move to a warmer place? But she was to busy weaving blankets and clothing for us. Our climate is really cold. We get snow and ice every year! I don’t remember at all any times it was nice, cozy warm in the winter. We always go into the warm part of our house we could nearly freeze to death!

  13. Weathers impact • Some people get really cold and get sick here. Every winter there is at least 2 people dying, because of our harsh weather. My auntie died 3 years ago. It was sad. My dad is getting a really bad cough. I hope he gets better. He Is in the sick room. The spirit man- doctor is helping him.

  14. survival strategies My family uses a strategies to survive. My mother weaves coats. She is probably back there weaving some clothes right now.  but then again I'm wondering when is breakfast.. Akecheta came in like, Brr, its cold! You don’t have your winter moccasins. Those shoes are very comfy. They have fur and wolf hairs in them. We also were these coats covered with buffalo hair. That keeps us extra, extra warm. We also add more to the hut during winter. We cover it with deer tails so we stay warm. My father is out there with his winter moccasins and his coat all better. (not sick!) 

  15. The reflection Told by hurrit

  16. Future plans • It is the year 1730 and I am doing better. So is my mother. My brother has turned out to be a real warrior. He visits us from his fighting every summer, and winter. At least he isn't as annoying as he used to be!  he actually calls me annoying now. My father provides foods and more. We are doing great.

  17. Out look for m tribe: reflection 2 • I hope my tribe stays alive. Many white men are taking our buffalo and killing people for there houses. I saw another white man and he stole some food from our house. Our people started migrating and are better off in new countries.

  18. bibliography • All of my pictures were from pixa bay but one: it was from www.religion/food.com
