  2. The Birth of Shakespeare • Born on April 23, 1564 and was baptized in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. • The third of eight children and oldest son A drawing by Richard Green of the birthplace of Shakespeare

  3. Shakespeare’s Family • John and Mary Shakespeare were his mother and father • Siblings: Joan, Margaret, William, Gilbert, Joan, Anne, Richard, Edmund • Married Anne Hathaway and had 3 children: Susanna, Hamnet, and Judith (Hamnet died as a child).

  4. Education • Shakespeare possibly only attended school until the age of 13 The hornbook is what Shakespeare would have used in school. It included the alphabet and the Lord’s Prayer.

  5. Writing • Lived in London in 1588 • Was an actor also • Wrote many types of plays (ie: historical, comedy, tragedy, romance) • Henry VI (1590) • Richard III (1592)
